At that moment, the cocktails were served.

With an indifferent tone, Septimus responded. He then tapped his cigar on the edge of the ashtray. “This woman is rather intriguing. Investigate her background and report back to me.
“Understood. The subordinate accepted the order and departed.
Suddenly, the memory of the woman’s tone and attitude when she spoke earlier, as well as her confident smile each time she flipped a card, flashed through his mind. Unconsciously, the corner of Septimus’s mouth twitched into a smirk. Following that, even his ze seemed to become more playful, as if he was observing some kind of intriguing prey.

Seeing that it was getting late, Madelyn finished her cocktail and got ready to leave.
After all, she didn’t harbor any extravagant hopes of uncovering any information in just one day. This matter wasn’t that simple, so there was no point in rushing.
As they were leaving, the two of them went together to cash in their chips.

“I won a lot of money today, so consider this a little token of appreciation for your effort. After all, you did accompany me here,” Madelyn said with a cheerful smile.

As she spoke, their gazes drifted across the glass to spot the casually dressed figures of Dracon and Tigra not too far away.

Josiah was utterly dumbfounded. “Why are so many people following us? Could it be because we just some money?”
After a moment of thought, Madelyn calmly shook her head. “I don’t think so. If I’m not mistaken, those paen in black are well–trained, probably sent by Septimas to investigate us. As for the other two…. I truly have no idea where they came from.”
“What should we do?” Josiah was somewhat anxious.
Madelyn merely intended to conduct an investigation here and didn’t wish to reveal her identity just yet. Besides, if the people tailing them harbored ill intentions, wouldn’t they be doomed?
With this in mind, Madelyn leaned in and whispered in his ear. “For safety reasons, I think it’s better if we don’t drive your car. Let’s take a taxi to the slums. The streets there are quite intricate. We can get off there and then run!”
Josiah found this suggestion reasonable and nodded in agreement.
And so, the two of them made their way to the roadside to hail a taxi.
As the car passed through a slum, Madelyn handed over two hundred yuan and insisted on getting out. Following their plan, the two of them then darted into the labyrinth of narrow alleyways within the slum.
The paths within were already intricate. Madelyn, leading Josiah, had turned so many corners that they managed to lose the people following them.
