Madelyn was relieved to finally have a day off from her classes. She got up early, planning to visit Dereck at the Thornton residence and then accompany him to the company to learn the ropes of managing it.
When she arrived at the residence, Derek was having his breakfast.
Upon seeing his beloved daughter. Derek broke into a nile. “You’re here early. Come and join me for some breakfast.”
Madelyn responded with a warm smile and moved closer. She pulled up a stool and sat down. “Dad, I’ll accompany you to the office later.”
Derek was delighted to see how eager she was to learn from him. “All right!”
After finishing their breakfast, the father–daughter duo set off for the company together.
During this time, Madelyn devoted herself entirely to learning the ins and outs of the company’s affairs. She was determined to ease her father’s burden as soon as possible.
-Every time Derek looked at his daughter, a profound sense of satisfaction washed over him.
Though the prospect of finding another life companion seemed distant, the comfort of having his daughter by his side was more than enough. What more can I possibly ask for?
“Dad, do you think we can proceed with this contract? If we could cut down the budget by just a bit and reassess this part, we might be able to collaborate with them.” Madelyn showed Derek a contract while sharing her view.
Derek glanced at the contract and immediately expressed his satisfaction with a nod. “You sure are a quick learner.”
As he spoke, Derek handed the contract over to Cyrus. Upon reviewing it, Cyrus couldn’t help but praise Madelyn. “Ms. Thornton has a remarkable talent for business. Most people would struggle to gain such clear insights without at least two or three years of experience.”
After finishing his statement, Cyrus turned his gaze toward Derek. “Mr. Thornton, considering Ms. Thornton’s progress, I believe she’ll be ready to take over the company in no time.”
“That’s right,” Derek nodded in agreement, feeling extremely content in his heart.
Madelyn, however, felt the praise was excessive. She immediately responded with a chuckle. “You should stop complimenting me, or I might not know how to get down from my high horse.”
“Do you not appreciate all the praise?” Derek let out a hearty laugh. “The sooner you take over the company, the happier I’ll be. That way, you can marry Sebastian and give me a grandchild as soon as possible. That would make me a very happy man!”
Madelyn’s face turned red with embarrassment. “Come on, Dad. Why are you bringing this up again? I still have a lot to learn from you.”

Upon glancing. Madelyn noticed that the call was from Josiah. She then discreetly moved aside to answer the phone. “Hey.”
“Are you off today? What are you up to?” Josiah asked.
Madelyn replied promptly. “I’m at the company with my dad, learning some management skills from him. What’s up?”
Josiah couldn’t help but tease, “Oh, I almost forgot how busy you are since you’re the heir to Thornton Corporation!”
“Oh, stop it.” Madelyn grinned. “But seriously, why did you call?”
Josiah replied, “Nothing urgent. Tristan and I had a chat earlier, and we thought, since we’re free today, why not head out for some fun and catch up? We’ll invite Jillian too. What do you think?”
“Sure thing.” Madelyn chuckled, readily agreeing. “After all, you’re about to join the military, so we won’t have many chances to hang out. How could I possibly miss it? Send me the location later, will you?”
After speaking. Madelyn promptly hung up the phone.
So, after finishing work at noon, Madelyn went to meet the gang-
“Mr. Thornton, it’s time for lunch.” Seeing that it was almost noon, Cyrus stepped forward to remind.
Derek.
Derek nodded, promptly wrapped up his work, and readied himself to grab a bite.
Meanwhile, downstairs at the Thornton Corporation building, Kieran sat in an all–black van, observing the endless stream of traffic on the bustling streets.
He glanced at the time and couldn’t help but ask. “Eunice, do you think your father will come down from
there?”
“Of course.” Eunice was seated nearby, nodding her head with certainty. “Whenever he came to the office, my dad would usually dine at the restaurant across the street. It was his daily routine. He would opt for takeout only when he was swamped with work.”
Upon hearing this, Kieran nodded, then turned to the driver in front and asked, “You remember everything I told you earlier?”
The driver, filled with fear, nodded earnestly. “Yes, Mr. Jiminez.”
“Can you do it?”
“I think so, the driver replied, though his palms were noticeably slick with sweat, clearly indicating the intense anxiety he was experiencing at the moment.
Kieran had planned to stage a fake car accident.
Kieran had instructed the driver to drive in Derek’s direction when he was crossing the street.

At that moment. Eunice was on edge, repeatedly warning the driver, “No matter how fast you drive, your must stop the car on time. Otherwise, I swear you’ll pay with your life!”
The driver, who dared not disobey her, could only nod emphatically. “I’ll make sure to brake on time.”
“Calm down, Eunice,” Kieran comforted her from the side.
His words of comfort did case Eunice’s nerves slightly. She nodded, exited the car, and positioned herself to make her move.
Hiding behind the bus stop sign on the roadside, Eunice gestured toward Kieran in the car.
Immediately, Kieran understood and responded with an “OK” hand gesture.
They all waited eagerly for the right moment to take action.
Meanwhile, Derek was giving instructions as he descended into the elevator. “Cyrus, I want you to call a board meeting this afternoon. I’d like to discuss the recent new project with the directors.”
Cyrus nodded in agreement from behind. All right, Mr. Thornton.”
After humming in acknowledgment, Derek then asked, “By the way, what’s Maddie doing this afternoon?”
“Ms.Thornton mentioned she had an appointment this afternoon to hang out with her friends,” Cyrus replied.
Derek sighed softly. “Her plans are always changing; it’s hard to keep up.”
“It seems Ms. Thornton has made quite a few good friends recently.” Cyrus chuckled.
“It’s good for her to spend time with friends, but I hope they’re a positive influence,” Derek remarked with a hint of concern, unsure of what to do about his daughter. Then, the two of them walked out through the company’s main door.
At that moment, Eunice was already concealed behind the bus stop sign. Her heart skipped a beat as she spotted her father in the distance.
Eunice observed her father pausing at the traffic light. When it turned green, he started to cross with Cyrus. Without hesitation, she signaled to the car.
Seeing her signal, Kieran quickly instructed the driver, “Go!”
