After getting in the car, Madelyn was still very restless.

She could sense it; she must have unintentionally upset Sebastian! Otherwise, no matter how busy he was, he wouldn’t have been so cold.
But where had she gone wrong? Where exactly had the problem occurred? She couldn’t figure it out.
Moreover, even if Sebastian was cold, Malcolm shouldn’t have been equally distant.

And so, feigning complete ignorance, he spoke coldly. “You’re overthinking it, Mrs. Lockhart. You haven’t done anything wrong.”
“You’re lying!”
Madelyn immediately retorted, “Do you really take me for a fool? The two of you suddenly become so cold toward me. Something’s obviously wrong!”
“No,” Malcolm continued to deny, “It’s just that Mr. Lockhart has been rather busy.”
“I don’t buy it.”
Madelyn watched Malcolm refusing to speak, and her heart was in a knot.
So, she tried a different approach. “Malcolm, you’re with Sebastian every day, you must know what’s going on. Please, could you just tell me?”
Immediately, Malcolm felt a chill run down his spine.
Isn’t it usually endearing when a woman acts coy? But when Mrs. Lockhart does it, it’s downright terrifying!
“Madam, I honestly have no idea. Besides, shouldn’t you be the one who knows best what you’ve done?” Malcolm said in an icy tone.
Upon hearing this, Madelyn was displeased. “Malcolm, what are you implying? If I knew what I did wrong, why would I ask you? Enough, just spit it out, or I’ll really get mad.”
In the end, Malcolm decided to play dumb, not uttering a single word.
“Malcolm!”

Seeing that Malcolm was unyieldingly indifferent, Madelyn had no choice but to resort to intimidation.
Unexpectedly, this tactic proved to be quite effective. Upon hearing it, Malcolm’s face instantly changed.
“Mrs. Lockhart, why must you force me?”
“I didn’t force you. I just really want to know what happened,” Madelyn said persistently.
Malcolm took a deep breath. Mrs. Lockhart is relentless, always digging until she gets to the bottom of things. Il never hear the end of this. Okay, since she’s eager to know, I’ll tell her everything
And so, Malcolm began to drop his formalities.
He slammed on the brakes, pulling the car over to the side of the road. Malcolm then proceeded to give Madelyn a thorough scolding.
“Mrs. Lockhart, as an assistant, I ordinarily wouldn’t presume to comment on your affairs. However, I find myself unable to remain silent. As a married woman, shouldn’t you understand the importance of maintaining appropriate boundaries? Shouldn’t you exercise a bit more restraint? Shouldn’t you keep some distance from other men?”
Upon hearing these words, Madelyn was utterly bewildered. She questioned herself, how had she not adhered to the traditional role of a woman? How had she lost her composure? And how had she failed to maintain a proper distance?
Malcolm continued, “Okay, let’s say you genuinely dislike Mr. Lockhart. However, you shouldn’t be openly flirting with other men in broad daylight! Isn’t this akin to publicly making a fool out of Mr. Lockhart? He must have a good temper to have held back his anger and not said anything. But Mrs. Lockhart, if my girlfriend were to make a fool out of me like this, I would have broken up with her a long time ago! I’ve been with Mr. Lockhart for quite some time now, and I’ve come to understand his character, if not completely, then at least in part. He has always been a man of few emotions, yet, for some reason, he has taken a liking to you! But you? Mrs. Lockhart, not only do you fail to appreciate this, but you also repeatedly act recklessly, doing everything in your power to hurt him… Sigh, I truly feel that it’s such a waste for Mr. Lockhart.”
After Malcolm finished speaking in one breath, he felt a great deal of relief.
In truth, these words had been weighing on his heart for a very long time.
All along, he had been sympathizing with Sebastian, feeling that Sebastian being with Madelyn was simply demeaning himself.
Madelyn was truly quite tempestuous, always stirring up trouble at the slightest provocation.
There were countless ladies of high society outside, and Sebastian could easily pick one, and any one of them would have a much better temperament than Madelyn.
Indeed, Madelyn was beautiful. But even the most beautiful things could be dangerous, like a rose with thorns. The more you admired her, the more likely you were to get hurt.
However, Sebastian only had eyes for Madelyn. As a man, Malcolm found himself at a loss at Sebastian’s stubbornness.

“Darn it!” Madelyn exclaimed in frustration, her fist slamming into the backseat. Instantly, she was overwhelmed with irritation.

She couldn’t help but curse inwardly. That jerk Christopher, always meddling and spoiling my plans when he has nothing better to do! Well, this is great. Sebastian has misunderstood me once again.
Perhaps he even thought that she was the type of woman who said one thing to his face but did something else behind his back.
Sebastian must have thought Madelyn was merely putting on a show of being overly courteous and flattering on the surface. But behind the scenes, she was entangled with Christopher in a complicated relationship.
No wonder he was so indifferent toward her. A bitter laugh escaped from Madelyn at the thought, leaving her feeling somewhat disheartened.
It seemed like all the previous efforts had been in vain.
Seeing Madelyn’s complexion wasn’t looking great, a slight chill crept into Malcolm’s heart.
He had been so engrossed in righting the wrongs earlier that he hadn’t noticed Madelyn’s expression.
Madelyn was silent, her head bowed low. Could it be that she was holding back her anger, about to lose her temper again?
Unexpectedly, this time, Madelyn had completely quieted down.
At Lockhart Manor, not long after the young couple left, Steven and Agnes lost interest in their activities. They decided to clean up and retire to bed.
Marsha was left alone, pacing back and forth in the grand hall. Her mind was in utter disarray.
She still couldn’t bring herself to believe that Madelyn could have suddenly changed like this.
It was simply unbelievable. Apart from her face, everything else, from her personality to the tone of her speech, seemed to have undergone a drastic transformation.
The capricious young lady of the past was notoriously willful and obstinate. She could start a quarrel over the slightest disagreement.
Even if there were changes after marriage, it wouldn’t have been toned down to this extent.
Given that, there could only be one explanation–Madelyn was pretending all along!
Ha, who knows what kind of tricks she might be playing in her mind!
Upon this thought, Marsha’s eyes narrowed slightly. Then, she called over the butler, Jim Patton.
“Jim, could you head to the school and look into Madelyn for me? There were wild rumors before that she was smitten with the son of the Gale family, weren’t there? How did she suddenly change her mind? Once you’ve got the details, report back to me.”
Upon hearing this, Jim gave a slight nod. “Yes.”
