Chapter 60 Do You Even Care
Sebastian? What is he doing here?
Madelyn couldn’t help but stiffen, then hastily stood up.
“Dad, I’m still feeling a bit under the weather. I’ll head upstairs first. You should get some rest soon too.”
After speaking, Madelyn immediately turned around and ascended the stairs.
For reasons unknown, she felt a bit suffocated at that moment. She simply didn’t want to see Sebastian.
She quickened her pace, reaching the top of the stairs in the blink of an eye.
Derek looked at her retreating figure, wanting to say something but didn’t get the chance. He could only sigh.
He then went to open the door for Sebastian.
When Sebastian saw Derek, he courteously greeted him, “Dad.”
Derek quickly ushered him inside. “You’ve truly gone out of your way, visiting at this late hour.”
“Don’t worry. It’s my fault that Madelyn got hurt. I didn’t take good care of her. If I didn’t make this trip, I wouldn’t be at ease,” Sebastian calmly stated.
Derek gently nodded, feeling a growing fondness for Sebastian in his heart.
It seems he truly cares for my daughter; otherwise, he wouldn’t have come to look for her in the middle of the night.
“Dad, where’s Madelyn?”
Sebastian scanned the living room, yet he found no trace of Madelyn.
Derek replied, “She mentioned earlier that she wasn’t feeling well, so she went upstairs to rest.”
He couldn’t help but recall how Madelyn had hurried upstairs earlier as if she was trying to escape from something.
Did they get into a fight?
Derek suddenly looked at Sebastian and said seriously, “Sebastian, there are some things I need to discuss with you. Come, have a seat first.”
Derek made his way to the couch and sat down.
Sebastian didn’t give it much thought and simply took a seat on the couch.
Derek let out a sigh and said solemnly, “Sebastian, Maddie has grown up before my eyes. She’s always been a rebellious and carefree spirit, but she’s truly kind–hearted. Sometimes, she struggles to express herself, and her words can be quite extreme. I hope that if she ever steps out of line, you will be understanding and forgive her.”

Derek looked at Sebastian seriously, his expression akin to someone who had just handed over a family heirloom.
Sebastian responded almost without hesitation, “Don’t worry, Dad. Madelyn is my wife. I will make sure she’s happy.”
“I’m glad to hear that.”
Derek nodded, feeling significantly more at ease within his heart.
In reality, he wasn’t worried about Sebastian. Rather, he was concerned that his daughter’s rebellious nature might hurt Sebastian’s feelings. That was why he had said all that.
Following that, he asked curiously, “What on earth happened tonight? From the time she returned home in the middle of the night, I sensed something was off about her. Although she didn’t utter a word, I knew she must have been mistreated outside. Just like her mother, she tends to bottle up her feelings, making it difficult for me to confront her directly. Do you know why?”
Sebastian couldn’t help but recall the chaotic brawl that had occurred at the entrance of the club that night.
He roughly explained, “She was involved in a heated altercation outside a club tonight. Both parties were quite worked up, and a fight broke out. I’m to blame for this. I didn’t take care of Madelyn.”
Sebastian lowered his head slightly in regret.
“I see. That explains it.” Derek was surprisingly composed. “Madelyn has always been strong–willed and a bit stubborn since she was a child. She must have had her faults in this matter too. It must have been a burden on you.”
Sebastian gave a slight nod, not uttering a word. His only concern was Madelyn’s injury.
“How badly is she injured?”
“Her arm was dislocated and she sustained scratches during the altercation. But they’ve all been treated. It’s okay. Young people tend to recover quickly. She should be fine in a few days.”
Sebastian gave a slight nod, feeling much more at ease.
At that moment, Derek suddenly asked, “Do you want to go up and check on her? Why don’t you just stay here for the night? There are some things that, as her father, I find difficult to say. You could help me comfort her.”
After a brief moment of hesitation, Sebastian gave a nod of agreement.
At that moment, Madelyn was merely lying in bed in the room with her eyes wide open. She couldn’t possibly fall asleep.
When she heard footsteps echoing from the hallway, she wondered if they belong

Madelyn was somewhat frustrated, but with no other option, she reluctantly opened her eyes to look at Sebastian,
“What are you doing here?” Madelyn asked indifferently.
In that brief instant, Sebastian sensed that this demeanor truly embodied the Madelyn he remembered- aloof, icy, and distant.
Sebastian’s heart clenched with inexplicable discomfort as he asked, “Is your arm feeling any better?”
“Do you even care?” Madelyn responded almost instinctively.
“Of course I do,” Sebastian said resolutely.
Upon hearing this, Madelyn knew she was done for.
All the pent–up frustration within her seemed to have vanished the moment he confessed his care for her.
She simply lowered her gaze, giving a faint nod. “I’m fine.”
“Okay,” Sebastian answered sullenly. “You should get some sleep now.”
What? That’s it?
Madelyn suddenly felt a surge of frustration.
He showed up in the middle of the night, not bothering to check on me. Now he expects me to sleep? Fine, I’ll sleep!
Madelyn was quite displeased. She simply turned her back to Sebastian and continued to sleep.
Sebastian looked at her back and did not utter a single word. He removed his outerwear and then pulled back the covers, lying down next to her.
