5 Chapter 5
My first thought was that Jaxon was incredibly handsome. His features could rival the brightest star in the night sky.
My second reaction was embarrassment. I’d been caught red–handed stealing cake. If a hole had opened up in the floor, I would have jumped in and buried myself.
I forced myself to remain calm, placed the cake back on the plate, and sat back down on the bed. Then, I pulled my veil back down, pretending nothing had happened.
Jaxon chuckled to himself. He walked over to me, lifted my veil, and placed the entire plate of
cake in front of me.
“You must have been starving all day. Here, don’t be shy. Eat as much as you want.”
I looked up at him, wondering if he was serious. He wasn’t going to punish me after I took the bait, was he?
Growing up with Willa, I had fallen into her traps countless times. That’s why I always second–guessed the kindness of others.
To my surprise, Jaxon picked up a piece of cake and placed it in my hand. Then he sat down next
to me.
“Two years ago, you had the courage to save a dying man in an abandoned mine. And now, you don’t even dare to eat a piece of cake?”
His words instantly triggered a memory. Two years ago, Willa and I had gone to a sacred site on the outskirts of the city. On the way back, however, she ordered the driver to dump me in an
abandoned mine.
It was a stormy day, and being left alone in the mine was terrifying. It was then that I heard a faint cry for help./
After hesitating for a long time, I decided to follow the sound. When I found him, he was alone
and suffering from silver poisoning, but he was still breathing, which was a relief.
I
I used all my strep
to drag him out of the mine and walked for what felt like an eternity
before I ran into a kind wanderer who agreed to take him for treatment.
The next day, a team of Ber

Before he left, he asked for my

As that memory flashed through my
“The man I saved… that was you?” ind, Hooked up at Jaxon in astonishment.
I was stunned. But since I was his savior, I should be relatively safe now.
Jaxon smiled and replied, “Yes, it was me.”
Because of our shared past, and because he wasn’t as terrifying as the rumors claimed, I was much more relaxed than before.

5 Chapter 5
The two of us talked late into the night until I started to feel drowsy. I then took off my bridal headdress, washed up, and went to bed.
Jaxon was supposedly cursed and unable to bond, so I felt no pressure sleeping next to him. I fell asleep as soon as I got into bed.
What I didn’t know was that a pair of desire–filled eyes were watching me.
Meanwhile, as the days without Liliana passed, Wyatt began to be consumed by regret.
Memories of Liliana constantly surfaced in his mind.
She had always followed him around, so wherever he went, he could always see her sweet smile.
Wyatt had always known she adored him.
After so many years, he had begun to feel possessive of her too.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have agreed to bond with Liliana when Willa had her ‘episode!
However, on the eve of their bonding ceremony, Willa miraculously recovered, and his father informed him that his mate bond with Willa had been restored.
He’d even asked his own father to let him have both sisters of the Mistwood pack.
