Chapter 3
འ ོན
“Smack!”
The phone hit the floor, and the screen immediately cracked like a spider web.[]
“Serena, don’t go too far!“]
She grabbed my collar and pulled hard.
“Pierce has given his order. Why are you still here? Get out!“]]
From the first day she became assistant, Leah had been targeting me.
Once, when I passed by the CEO’s office, I accidentally overheard her saying: “Pierce, the company isn’t a charity. It’s unfair to other employees to waste so much money supporting someone who plays games all day.“[]
Her voice wasn’t loud, but just loud enough to be heard outside.]
Pierce didn’t respond.
But through the window, I saw him pause while flipping through documents.[]
From then on,
Leah became even more aggressive.[]
She began “casually” bringing up my “achievements” in department meetings, making sure everyone knew how I was “contributing” to the company.
“Some people take high salaries and don’t even attend meetings. I don’t know if they’re here to work or vacation.“[]
Rumors about me began spreading throughout the company.
Some said I got the job through connections, others said I hid in my office sleeping every day, and some even bet on when I’d be fired.]
I knew all this, but I didn’t care.
But the more I ignored it, the bolder Leah became.[]
This time, she had seized the opportunity and was simply arrogant to the extreme.
I wasn’t going to let her off easy. I grabbed Leah’s wrist and twisted hard.]
“Ah!”
Leah cried out in pain and instinctively released my collar.[]
In the struggle, her arm hit the edge of the conference table, and her watch made a crisp collision sound against the solid wood surface.
Leah staggered back two steps, looked down, and her face instantly turned pale.
Her expensive Patek Philippe watch face now had an obvious scratch that was particularly glaring under the lights.[]
“You you…”
Leah tremblingly raised her wrist, fury almost bursting from her eyes.]
“Serena, do you know how much this watch costs?“]
“This is a birthday gift from Pierce! It’s worth $800,000!“]
I calmly straightened my wrinkled collar.[]
“If you can’t even stand steady, who’s to blame?”
Chapter 3
“Serena!” Pierce finally couldn’t hold back and shouted angrily, “You’ve gone too far!“]]
“You’re not only disrupting the meeting, but now you’re deliberately damaging other people’s property.“]
“As CEO, I officially notify you that you’re fired.“[]
“Now, immediately pack your things and leave the company!“]]
Leah triumphantly yelled: “Pierce, we can’t let her off easily. She has to compensate for my watch!“]
The conference room fell silent.
Everyone looked at me with pity or schadenfreude, as if waiting for a show to begin.
“Fine, I’ll compensate.“]
“$800,000, right?”
I bent down to pick up the broken phone.
Although the screen was cracked, it still worked.]
I dialed a number, and just as I was about to speak, Leah sneered: “Eight hundred thousand? It’s eight million!”
I stopped and looked
at her.
“Are you sure?”
“I’m absolutely sure!” Leah raised her chin, “A gift from Pierce is priceless!
“Only asking you to pay eight million is already a bargain for you!“]
“Why don’t you let everyone judge for themselves? Am I wrong?”
Leah insisted on her point.[]
She knew my salary couldn’t possibly afford that amount.]
ne.0
She just wanted to disgust me, humiliate me
Seeing this situation, other executives spoke up to support her.
“Yes, how can you measure a gift from Pierce with money?” The CFO pushed his glasses, “Serena, pay up.”
“The company isn’t a charity. Compensation for damaged property is appropriate.” The marketing director sneered, “Though with Serena’s salary, she might spend her lifetime paying off this debt.“]
Everyone burst into laughter, their eyes filled with mockery and schadenfreude.[]
They had never liked me, and n now that I was in trouble, of course they didn’t mind–making things worse for me.]
Pierce stood aside, frowning but not speaking to stop them.
Faced with their cold mockery, I wasn’t angry. Instead, I looked up at Leah: “Eight million, it won’t increase anymore, right?“]
Leah was stunned for a moment, then burst out laughing.
“Serena, why are you still pretending at a time like this?“]
“How much can you earn in a month?“]
“Eight million, are you going to pay with your life?“]
ignored her and picked up my phone.
Chapter 3
“Prepare eight million in cash for me and deliver it to Blake Group’s conference room, as fast as possible.“[|]
Leah rolled her eyes: “Pfft, what are you pretending? Do you think you can scare people with just a phone call?“[]
I didn’t answer, just waited quietly.
Less than ten minutes later, the conference room door was pushed open, and a middle–aged man in a suit walked in.[]
Behind him were more than a dozen bank employees in uniforms, each carrying a briefcase.
