Chapter 42
Luna Lovette’s POV
I wasn’t supposed to feel the mate bond, so what was I feeling? 1 knew it was best to ask someone who had experienced it before, but for now, I had to protect my pup
Kodak would not let me out of his sight, and I was not ready to explore whatever was between Alpha Mason and me with a pup in my womb.
Moreover, the fact that he was previously mated to Zeeva made it all too coincidental, almost like marrying both of Zeeva’s exes, which I could not accept.
Zeeva had apparently left him for Kodak, according to what Mason had mentioned. I doubted if Kodak knew about that.
The time spent with him has given me a clear insight into his personality and current demeanor. Jeading me to believe that he wasn’t aware of all these details
When my mother sacrificed my mate bond at birth, it was explicitly stated that I would never feel the mate bond.
Therefore, I was prepared for a love marriage, which unfortunately did not work out. If I were to ever consider anything with Alpha Mason, 1 would need to do some research first.
Politely, I expressed my feelings to him, apologizing for any potential embarrassment, but he should have sought permission and spoken to me privately instead of announcing it to everyone.
In this situation, I had no choice but to follow the same protocol. “Alpha Mason, I’m sorry, but I can’t accept whatever connection there may be between us.”
I watched as his hope faded, but there was nothing I could do about it
“Are you rejecting me!” He looked devastated, and so was 1. Kodak smiled at me, but I couldn’t immediately return the smile
If Alpha Mason was truly my mate, then I just rejected him for a sham marriage, but it was well understood because Kodak had also done the same.
“Tm afraid so. I hope you understand my decision,” I stated firmly. He looked embarrassed as murmurs broke out, but I couldn’t pay them any artendion.
I already knew how hard it was for Mason, and I felt guilty about it. I couldn’t allow the comments from these present to make me feel even guiltler.
Suddenly, Alpha Mason grew insistent, making a demand.
“You haven’t even given me a chance. Call off the wedding and let’s start afresh. I will reimburse everything.
Somehow, I lost respect for him when he mentioned money. He, of all people, should understand that money is not an important factor in this
“You and I know that this isn’t about money. Even if I decided to leave Alpha Kodak right now, whatever he spent on this occasion would be too insignificant for him to request a refund.”
sar in his eyes as he stared at me. My words were true and undeniable.

“It’s alright. This isn’t the first time I’ve faced rejection anyway,” he finally conceded, his expression samber.
Don’t, Olga yelled in my head when she realized what I was about to do, but I reminded her. This is the only way for us to keep our pup”
She fell silent after that, but I sensed her disappointment. Despite knowing she didn’twant to hear it. I proceeded to say what needed to be said. Im sorry, but
- Luna Lovette Ember, reject you as my mate.”
I had hoped that by whirring those words, the strange feelings I had towards him would cease, but they persisted. He appeared bewildered, likely dur in not fully accepting the rejection
“Alpha Mason, please acknowledge the rejection,” I pleaded, noticing the pain in his eyes as he took a deep breaths.
“L, Alpha Mason Cairo, accept your rejection.”
To my surprise, nothing changed between us, causing me to panic. “The band is still there. How?” I couldn’t comprehend it, and it was distressing,
The confusion mirrored on his face, and the onlookers were curious about the situation, evident in their expressions. “I don’t know either,” he admited, leaving me feeling hopeless and bewildered.

After Kodak explained his insistence on us marrying before revealing the pup, I accepted the situation and didn’t want to use Mason away.
My rejection should have sufficed for that. “What’s happening” Alpha Kodak interrupted, and I explained it as best as I could.
“The bond between us hasn’t broken despite the rejection” 1 added.
His expression turned grim, but I couldn’t be blamed for the Moon Goddess’s choice to pair me with Maison after I was told otherwise.
“That’s impossible,” Kodak fumed, and I couldn’t help but feel sorry for him, even though there was nothing I could do.
“I’m not sure what’s happening.” 1 admined, momentarily forgetting the reason for our gathering until he reminded me.
“It doesn’t matter. Let’s proceed with the wedding,” he said casually, and I felt a sense of unease, but a contract was a contract.
I reassured myself that after the pup was born, I could request a divorce. “Yes, let’s continue”
1 caught Zeeva’s gaze, and it was filled with animosity, I couldn’t help but wonder what I had done to upset her.
Perhaps our previous issue had been resolved when she visited my packhouse, making it difficult for me to interpret her body language.
noticed the tension in Raul and Embry’s eyes but was relieved they didn’t interfere in our complicated situation.
“Luna Lovette, are you certain about this?” the officiating minister inquired after Kodak gave the go–ahead for the ceremony. I knew I had no choice.
“Yes. Kodak is the man I want to be with, but I would like to have some time alone with him
I paid no attention to what people might think as they settled into their seats.
It was crucial for us to finalize this before proceeding with the contract. Kodak also seemed eager for this meeting and suggested,
“This is a hotel, so there are many rooms booked for out–of–town guests. Let’s use one of them.
I didn’t care about people’s opinions or where we would have our conversation, as long as it wasn’t in front of everyone.
Their curious stares followed us until we disappeared from the garden view. I walked with Kodak to one of the hotel rooms, and as soon as he shut the door, he spoke sternly.
“Don’t tell me you want to change your mind.”
-1 bit my lower lip thoughtfully before I replied, “It’s far from that”
He seemed relieved that I wasn’t going to cancel the wedding but was equally concerned. “Then what is the problem?”
I paused, thinking about the best way to phrase my question. After gathering courage, I asked him in a serious tone, “Tell me, do you still have feelings for Zeeva?”
His immediate response triggered a surge of emotions within me. “Yes, but I still ended things with her
I knew he did u for our pup, which had previously made me feel guilty, but now we were even.
Why do you still have feelings for her, and I have feelings for Mason!” Lasked, feeling worried about the potential impact on our pup in the future.
“I can’t explain it, but we share a pup, and until he or she is born, you won’t be able to get rid of me, he said firmly, conveying his seriousness, though I sensed a hint of jealousy in his demeanor.
“Well, even though this is a contractual arrangement, I hope there are no secrets between you and Zeeva,” I expressed my concern.
He chuckled, and I anticipated his response. “After the public scrutiny I faced, that will never happen,” he assured me, providing the reassurance I
needed
“Okay, let’s proceed” I was prepared to return to the garden, but Kodak seemed uneasy.

His demeanor shifted in a way I had never seen before, and his tone became stern and intimidating
“You must not ser Mason again until after the pup is born. If you do, I will kill him.

I knew he was capable of it, but not everything could be foreseen when neither of us possessed the powers of the moon goddess.
“What if it’s by chance?” I questioned, feeling my heart race at his intense gaze.

“There shouldn’t be any chance encounters, and I will also avoid Zeeva,” he assured me, providing the reassurance I needed.
“You must keep your word,” I reminded him, preparing to leave.
However, Kodak suddenly pulled me back, and before I could react, he did something unexpected.
