Chapter 68
コ
I put on an amazed expression and asked, “Oh, and did you manage to pull it off?“}
2
No, not even once. Everything I said was dismissed by her as childish and unreasonable.
Serena paused for a moment, her expression softening slightly. She spoke gently, “You’re upset because I didn’t save you earlier, right?”
Before I could answer, she continued, her tone as calm and logical as ever. “Think about it. Stephanie was there with us. She’s your sister–if anything happened to you, of course, she’d help. But at that moment, only I could help Cyril. If I hadn’t gone to him, he could’ve been seriously hurt. You wouldn’t want something like that on your conscience, would you?”
Her explanation sounded noble, almost convincing. If I hadn’t seen her rush toward him without a moment’s hesitation, I might have believed her.
“I’m not mad,” I said, forcing a smile. “Honestly, I think you and Cyril make a great pair.“}
“Stop joking-“}
Before she could finish, Stephanie appeared from around the corner, holding an ice pack. “Hey, what are you two talking about?“}
I quickly shifted my gaze and grinned. “Serena was just asking for my advice on whether she should accept Cyril’s confession.”
Serena’s face turned ice–cold. Anger flared in her eyes, barely restrained, like a fire ready to explode. She took a step forward, grabbed my wrist tightly, and hissed, “Albion, do you even know what you’re saying?“}
Even as pain shot through my wrist, I kept my smile. “Of course, I know. Don’t you like Cyril, Serena?“}
I met her gaze directly and saw the conflict flicker in her eyes. That brief hesitation told me everything I needed to know.
I couldn’t help but let out a soft, bitter laugh.
Stephanie, oblivious to the tension between us, walked over with the ice pack. “Alright, that’s enough. Whatever’s going on between Serena and Cyril, it’s none of our business. Albion, put this on your ankle, or you won’t be able to sleep tonight with the pain.“>
With her around, Serena had no choice but to let go of my wrist, though her anger was clear.}
As soon as her grip loosened, I glanced down. A red mark had already formed where her fingers had dug into my skin. Stephanie noticed it immediately and gasped. “Whoa, what’s with the heavy–handedness? What did Albion do to you?“}] Serena froze, caught off guard by the comment. She didn’t respond.§
I rubbed the sore spot on my wrist and shook my head. “Forget it. Serena didn’t mean it. Let’s head back to our rooms.” Dragging this out any further wouldn’t do me any good.
When I returned to my room, my phone buzzed in my hand.}
It was a message from Serena.
[Serena: I’ll come find you tonight. Let’s talk properly then.]
However, I didn’t reply and just set my phone aside.!
The cold I’d been nursing since yesterday had left me lightheaded, and the pain in my foot only made things worse. I skipped dinner and decided to rest in my room instead.
Just as I was drifting off, a knock at the door pulled me from my haze.>
Opening it, I found Cyril standing there with a plate in his hands. Without waiting for an invitation, he stepped inside.
“Your sister had the kitchen set aside dinner for you,” he explained. “She asked me to bring it over.”
I leaned against the doorframe, my throat dry and voice raspy. “You didn’t come here just to bring me dinner, did you?” With no one else around, Cyril dropped the act. A smug smile tugged at his lips, and his eyes gleamed with satisfaction.
“Albion, you’re not stupid,” he said. “You must’ve figured it out by now. Serena and I have a connection–always have. I was worried, you know, that she might actually be falling for you.”
He smirked, leaning back slightly as if savoring his victory. “But after what happened this afternoon, I’m sure of it. She still loves me. She can’t let me go.”
So, it was really him. He’d pushed me earlier, deliberately orchestrating the chaos to test Serena’s reaction.
I wanted to tell him off, but my dry throat betrayed me. Instead, I let out a weak laugh and rasped, “Did she actually tell you she likes me?”
