Chapter 44
“Investigating your boyfriend, the one from the Ludwig family? So, are we taking this case or not?” Z said, picking up his phone with a mischievous grin.
Lindsey glanced at the sender’s number, feeling it looked familiar. After opening her contacts, she saw it–of course,
was Sheila’s number.
She smiled and said, “It’s 100 thousand dollars. Why not take it? But… can’t reply truthfully…”
Z raised an eyebrow. “Then how do you plan to reply?”
Lindsey smirked. “Just tell her he’s a bum, always dressed up like some rich guy, acting all high–society to scam meals and drinks…”
Miguel’s frown deepened as he heard this. “That kid from the Ludwig family is doing that badly now?
“This kind of swindling is unacceptable. I’ll have to talk to Dennis. You can’t raise a son like this, even if he’s poor.”
Lindsey chuckled. “Uncle Moore, you misunderstood. Shawn’s doing fine. I was just joking–lying to Sheila.”
Miguel gave her a stern look. “You’ve got some nerve. Are you really talking about your boyfriend like that?”
Lindsey stuck her tongue out and quickly hid behind Z.
Z cleared his throat. “Don’t think I’ll protect you. You’re lucky you’re here. Let me take this chance to check your progress.”
Lindsey was unbothered. “Of course, no problem.” As a student, tests were inevitable.
After thinking for a moment, she turned to Z. “Uncle Z, what about using Quinn’s case for the test?”
Z raised an eyebrow. How long had she been in this line of work? If she could actually dig up solid evidence, that would be impressive.
But Z, being Z, wasn’t easily impressed. After hearing Lindsey’s suggestion, he remained expressionless, even a bit dissatisfied. “Is that it?”
Lindsey bit her lip. “What if we raise the stakes? Maybe find the transaction records between Zella and that influencer couple?”
It wasn’t going to be easy. The banking system was one of the most tightly regulated areas. Getting in unnoticed? Thinking the Cybersecurity Bureau was a joke?
Clearly, Z shared that view. Even he wasn’t confident he could pull it off 100%.
Hearing Lindsey’s suggestion, he simply thought she was too naïve. “Focus on other things first. We’ll tackle the transaction records later.” If Lindsey got exposed, he’d be the one cleaning up after her.
Lindsey pursed her lips but didn’t argue. She put her hands on the keyboard and got to work. Nowadays, a lot of phone apps had access to a ton of data, so getting evidence was as simple as tapping into their databases.
The good news was that she not only found chat logs between Zella’s agent and the influencer couple, but she also stumbled upon a phone recording. In the recording, Zella’s agent was practically walking them through how to scam Quinn.
Miguel shook his head in disbelief. “These young folks are wild! If they lived in ancient palaces, I swear, there’d be a bloody storm brewing!”
Lindsey laughed, “Uncle Moore, you like historical dramas?”
“What do I like those for? My daughter’s into them, so I’ve watched a bit.”
Lindsey blinked. “Your daughter?”
Z tapped her head. “At his age, having a daughter isn’t weird. His wife took their daughter abroad for school. I’m just helping out this old guy who’s feeling a bit lonely.”
Z still looked disgusted, but Lindsey noticed a faint smile hiding behind his indifference.
She chuckled, then turned back to her keyboard.
Z stopped her. “What are you doing? If you want to clear your name, this evidence is enough.”
“But I still haven’t gotten the transaction records.

Chapter 44
“Forget it. The banking system is no joke. You don’t have enough experience, and you’re likely to get caught.” Z didn’t like her reckless approach.
Lindsey insisted, “I still want to try.”
“No way! Do you know what you’re capable of?” Z’s tone was serious.
Lindsey was confident in her abilities, but seeing Z’s firm stance, she relented. “Alright, Uncle Z, give me another task!”
Z hesitated. Was she just trying to prove herself to him?
He sighed, “Never mind. Actually, your performance just now was already quite good. Hacking the banking system, even I wouldn’t dare to guarantee success. You’ve learned a lot from that USB drive, haven’t you?”
Lindsey nodded. “Yeah, but there are still some parts I don’t get. Would you mind helping me out?”
She pulled out the USB drive and showed him where she was stuck. But Z didn’t respond right away.
Lindsey looked up to see his stunned expression. “What’s wrong, Uncle Z? Is something wrong?”
Z didn’t answer. Instead, he grabbed the mouse from her and navigated back up the file tree. He kept selecting the folder again and again, his face full of disbelief.
“How much of this folder have you learned?” His voice was shaky.
Lindsey thought for a moment. “I only learned a little, maybe about 30%, the rest is still too complicated for me.”
Z was even more stunned. “Thirty percent?”
Lindsey was confused and just stared at him, wide–eyed.
“Besides this folder, how much else have you learned?” Z asked again.
Lindsey blinked. “I learned everything.”
Z’s shock was unimaginable. If Lindsey was telling the truth, then her ability to infiltrate the banking system wasn’t just a fantasy–it was doable. She might even have a higher success rate than him!
“Uncle Z, what’s going on?”
Z was practically shaking with excitement. “Do you have any idea? This folder’s content is something even I can’t crack, and you–YOU–managed
to learn 30% of it!”
Lindsey’s own eyes widened. “But this USB drive is yours, Uncle Z. How could it have something even you don’t understand?”
Z took a deep breath and sat down, calming himself. Then he said slowly, “Yes, the USB drive is mine, but this folder’s contents are from your mother.
“She sent it to me years ago and asked me to figure it out when I had time. Sadly, I haven’t gotten anywhere.”
He sighed again, “In the end, I’m not even as good as you, a little newbie…”
