Chapter 9
Katherine stared at me nervously.
“Betty, what… what did you want to say?”
I pointed at the flash drive, stumbling over my words at this critical
moment.
“F–flash drive… Betty got… got beaten.”
Mom instantly understood, waving for Gerald to play the flash drive’s
contents.
Katherine collapsed onto the floor, scrambling backward while pleading.
“T–this isn’t real! They faked this video to frame me!”
Big brother let out a cold laugh upon seeing this.
“Never thought you’d get your comeuppance, traitor.”
After watching everything, Mom radiated an icy aura that made everyone
shiver.
Second brother glared at her with gritted teeth.
“You bitch! You’re the one who told us to take Betty out, saying you’d ‘discipline‘ her!”
“Now we’re all ruined because of you. Don’t think you’ll walk away clean!”
Mom held me close, her voice thick with emotion.

“I’m so sorry, sweetheart. I failed to protect you.”
I wiped her tears away.
“Not your fault. See? I’m perfectly fine now.”

With one glance from Mom, the check in Katherine’s hand was snatched
away.
She crumpled to the floor, wailing hysterically
“Don’t take it! That’s all mine!”
She lunged at my brothers like a madwoman.
“Worthless cowards! All that big talk about protection, yet you can’t even save yourselves!”
Already enraged, big brother completely lost control.
He choked Katherine with both hands.
“If you hadn’t snitched, that old witch would be dead by now!”
“Your mother was right–you’re nothing but a curse!”
Katherine thrashed wildly, her face quickly turning purple.
“Enough!” Mom’s voice cut like ice. “Kill each other outside. Don’t dirty my place.”
Bodyguards swiftly pulled them apart. Big brother and the others scrambled to kneel before me.
“Betty, we were wrong! Forgive us? We promise to buy you all the candy you want!”

Ever since that last candy he gave me, I’d developed a phobia.
I vowed silently never to be tempted by sweets again.
Mom kicked them aside in disgust.
“Steward! Throw them out! They’re banned from the Hernandez estate
forever.”
“Oh, and calculate every penny I’ve wasted on them since childhood. They’ll repay every cent.”
Gerald approached Mom, revealing how second brother had hidden Katherine and Kathleen.
Kathleen stood trembling before Mom.
“Madam, I’d never harm the young miss! Please don’t send me away!”

Mom didn’t even glance her way, flicking a wrist for bodyguards to drag
her out.
As my brothers‘ and Katherine’s screams echoed behind us, Mom gently covered my ears and led me upstairs.
She summoned the family doctor to examine me head–to–toe, inside and
out.
“Mom, really, I’m fine. Not a scratch on me.”
She cradled me tightly.
“Sweetheart, tell me… how did you escape that day?”
I carefully watched her expression.
