Chapter 54 Bound To Happen
When Gabrielle saw Charles‘ face light up with enthusiasm, she couldn’t help but let out a silent chuckle.

After grabbing her clothes, she headed into the bathroom for a shower. Once she came out, she saw that the medicinal herbs had already been neatly arranged on the coffee table. Beside them sat a plate of snacks and a platter of freshly cut fruit. Off to the side, an electric kettle was slowly brewing a pot of coffee, its fragrance already filling the room.
“Mrs. Zechman, I made you some coffee. I’m not sure if it’s to your liking,” Charles said politely in a low voice.
Gabrielle cast a thoughtful glance at him, noting how efficiently he handled things.
“Mrs. Zechman, is something wrong?” Charles asked, a bit nervous.
She walked over and plugged in her phone as she replied, “You’ve got kidney stones.”
“What?” His eyes widened in surprise.
He stared at Gabrielle in disbelief. She took a sip of water and said calmly, “I’ll prepare some medicine for you tonight. Drink it for a few days and it should flush them out.”
“All right” Charles nodded, subtly wiping away the cold sweat on his forehead.
He’d always been healthy, with regular checkups that never showed anything unusual. But now that Gabrielle mentioned it. he felt a sudden unease. As soon as he left the room, he rushed to catch a taxi to the hospital for a CT scan.
Back in her room, Gabrielle sat on the edge of the bed, gently drying her damp hair. When her phone rang, she glanced at the screen and saw her assistant’s number flashing. The moment she answered, an irritated voice barked through the receiver. “Gabrielle, you need to come to the office right now.”
Hearing the assistant’s blunt tone, Gabrielle smirked coldly. Im not going,” she said without hesitation.
She’d never taken the assistant seriously. Yet somehow, they were acting like they were untouchable now. Even someone that low on the ladder dared to treat her with contempt, clearly emboldened by the fact that the Seavers family didn’t value her.
This assistant, making just a few thousand a month, had been in the industry long enough to start believing they were better
than others.
“Your contract isn’t up yet. If you want to stay in this business, you’d better get over here and renew it–now. Otherwise… the assistant threatened through gritted teeth.
Gabrielle popped a grape into her mouth and said casually, “You don’t have to go
out of your way to trick me. Tell Zachary this. Seavers Group going bankrupt was bound to happen. He should quit trying to drag me back into it. I have no ties to the Seavers family anymore. If they keep pushing, don’t blame me for kicking them while they’re down.”
She leaned back, her eyes turning frosty. Just as she finished speaking, the phone was snatched away from the assistant. “You happy now? Look at what you’ve done to our family!” Zachary’s voice came through, laced with fury.
“Did you do this? Were you the one who broke Mom’s leg? You must’ve cursed her, didn’t you?” he accused.
Gabrielle burst out laughing when she heard that. “Your mom broke her leg? Well, congrats. Sounds like you paid a small price to avoid a bigger disaster.”
“You–Zachary was so furious he nearly choked on his own rage.
Gabrielle wasn’t fazed in the slightest.
“If you want our forgiveness, then get the Zechman family to clean up this mess right now,” he threatened. “Otherwise, if the Seavers family goes down, don’t expect us to ever take you back”
Holding the phone between her shoulder and ear, Gabrielle stood and walked out of the room. “That’s perfect,” she said calmly. “Then go ahead and go bankrupt already”
“Cabrielle!” Zachary shouted

Marilyn had always been unlucky. The only reason things had gone smoothly for her the past six months was because of the emerald pendant Gabrielle had given her. Now that she no longer had it, her bad luck was coming back with a vengeance- and this was only the beginning
A cold glint flashed in Gabrielle’s eyes at the thought of that.
She turned back to gather her medicinal herbs, then went to the bay window and sat down. Carefully, she sorted the herbs she needed and began grinding them into powder. Her long hair fell around her face as she worked, focused and quiet.
The soft breeze from the window carried the scent of herbs through the room. It was oddly comforting
Suddenly, heavy footsteps echoed from behind, and someone stepped into her light, casting a shadow over her work. Gabrielle frowned.
Looking up, she saw Jonathan standing before her, tall and imposing, holding a lunchbox in one hand. His deep–set eyes swept over her.
“Charles said you skipped dinner, so I brought something back for you,” his husky voice rumbled.
Gabrielle blinked in surprise as he turned and set the box on the coffee table. With practiced ease, he opened each container -garlic butter prawns, pork ribs, corned beef, salad, and half a portion of spaghetti.
“Come eat. Jonathan said as he placed the fork next to the lunchbox.
Just as she was about to say “in a minute, her stomach growled loudly. Embarrassed, she glanced out the window and realized it was already dark.
I’ve been working all dayt
She vaguely remembered Charles coming in to call her for dinner. She must’ve missed it, and he must’ve turned on the lights for her, too.
With a sigh, she rubbed her temples, washed her hands, and walked over.
Thanks,” she said, accepting the fork and picking up a piece of pork rib. One bite in, and she realized it was delicious. The taste reminded her of a home–cooked meal. It was way better than the food from most restaurants.
“Grandpa saw you on the variety show. He watched your livestreams and knew you’d be back today. He wanted to come see you this afternoon, but in his rush, he fell and broke his leg. He’s resting at the Zechman manor now,” Jonathan said in his deep voice.
Gabrielle froze, looking up at him in disbelief.
Jonathan reached into his briefcase and pulled out a monetary gift, sliding it toward her. “This is from Grandpa,” he said. “And also this.”
He opened another box, revealing five pieces of gold jewelry–two bracelets, earrings, an anklet, and a necklace.
Under the lamplight, the gold gleamed, stunning Gabrielle into silence.
She quickly finished a mouthful of spaghetti and asked in a low voice, “Why’d Grandpa give me all this? Aren’t we just in a fake marriage for good luck?”
Before she could say more, Jonathan leaned back, his slender fingers tapping against the armrest. “Fake or not, you stepped through the Zechman family’s door,” he said. “To everyone else, you’re Mrs. Zechman–the lady of the house. If my grandfather gives you a welcome gift, you accept it.”
Gabrielle listened quietly as she continued eating. “All right,” she replied, not pretending to be modest. Then, as if something occurred to her, she bit into another pork rib, glanced at him, and asked, her voice mulled, “Hey… take your shirt off.”
