She was chewing on the rib, her gaze fixed on Jonathan, who was seated across from her. After he had peeled a shrimp and placed it on a plate, he gently slid it toward her.
Subsequently, he took a handkerchief and wiped his hands. Only then did he pick up his fork to eat.
Gabrielle gazed at the plate filled with peeled shrimp in front of her, and her thoughts drifted back to her previous life within the Seavers residence. She remembered how everyone in the family loved peeling shrimp for Chloe.
Back then, she was filled with envy and had expressed a desire to taste them.
Following that. Felix, wielding his fork, struck her on the head. Her forehead immediately swelled up into a large bump, and even her plate was sent flying by them.
From then on, they didn’t allow her to join them at the dining table.
After her reincarnation, she still didn’t understand why her past self had tolerated such treatment and why she had sought to please those people.
Even though she had never sought his favor, let alone mentioned it, Jonathan always peeled the shrimp for her.
“What’s wrong, does it not taste right?” Jonathan noticed her sitting there, staring blankly at her plate.
Seeing the situation, Jonathan quickly reached out to take the plate, but she held it down
“It’s nothing. I was just lost in thought,” Gabrielle said as she picked up a shrimp and popped it into her mouth.
Then, she realized that a shrimp peeled by someone else didn’t taste any different.
Jonathan ate in silence, hardly uttering a word. Despite the speed at which he consumed his meal, his movements were remarkably graceful, a clear indication of his etiquette training.
“I mentioned before,” Gabrielle suddenly said, “your poisoning has a lot to do with your close relatives, and your uncle plays a significant role in it. Your mother is also your uncle’s close kin.”
The tips of Jonathan’s fingers tightened slightly around his fork.
He lifted his gaze toward her, noticing that Gabrielle was quietly eating her meal, her head bowed.
It was as if she hadn’t uttered a word before. Jonathan’s lips moved slightly, and upon recalling his mother’s stance while aiding his younger brother, his gaze suddenly turned gloomy
“I’ll be careful.” Jonathan responded in a solemn tone.
The two of them didn’t speak again, sharing an unspoken understanding as they ate. With that, they finished their meal rather quickly.
At that moment, Jonathan’s phone suddenly buzzed. After taking the call, he stood up and headed out.
Upon taking a couple of steps, he seemed to remember something. He turned back toward Gabrielle and said, “I have some business to attend to outside. If you need anything, feel free to tell Charles.”
Gabrielle looked at him with a hint of confusion. After Jonathan finished speaking, he hurriedly walked away.
She too, got up and moved to the living room, settling herself on the couch. She picked up a strawberry and took a bite, the subtle flavor spreading across her palate.
Upon vaguely hearing her name being called, she rose, puzzled, and started to walk outside.
She was greeted by the sight of the bodyguard hastily entering, his face a picture of relief when he saw her.
“Mrs. Zechman” The bodyguard hurriedly approached her.

She lifted her gaze to look outside, faintly discerning a familiar figure.
“Zachary Seavers is causing a scene outside, insisting on seeing you,” the bodyguard said softly.

If it were anyone else causing a ruckus outside the Zechman residence, they would end up with their legs broken and thrown
In this case, Zachary was Gabrielle’s elder brother. Even though they did not share the same surname, they were family. Therefore, the bodyguard could only come in to ask for instructions.
“I’ll go take a look,” Gabrielle said.
She stood up and began to walk outside. The night breeze blew continuously, caressing her cheeks with a refreshing
sensation.
Outside the Zechman residence, a Mercedes was parked. Zachary stood there, somewhat awkwardly. His hands were clenched tightly into fists as he looked inside with a hint of humiliation.
“How dare they refuse to let me in? Is Gabrielle deliberately making her bodyguards give me a hard time?” Zachary gritted his teeth in anger as he spoke.
He never imagined that after Gabrielle married into the family, he, despite being Jonathan’s brother–in–law, couldn’t even step through the front door.
Recalling the moment he had stopped the car earlier, two bodyguards had rushed over, nearly breaking his leg. They had threatened him, saying, “Who do you think you are, daring to intrude on the Zechman residence? Do you have a death wish?”
After speaking, the bodyguard lunged forward. He pinned Zachary against the side of the car, his body pressed against the vehicle. The bodyguard then prepared to kick the latter’s legs.
Later, someone recognized him as Zachary. The bodyguard then remarked, “D’mn, I almost broke his leg. Are you sure this is Mrs. Zechman’s elder brother?”
Having said that, a bodyguard then went into the house to report.
Zachary’s face was as black as thunder, standing there rubbing his shoulder. He felt that the bodyguard’s rough shove earlier had caused it to be swollen.
“What do you want?” Gabrielle asked as she stepped out of his house.
Standing a few steps away from Zachary, she looked at him with her clear, almond–shaped eyes, cold and detached. She could tell that Zachary was exuding a hostile aura, the anger in his eyes impossible to hide.
“Come quickly to the hospital with me because you need to apologize to Mom! Do you have any idea how upset you’ve made her? Her heart almost stopped this afternoon, Zachary said brazenly.
As he spoke, he held the car keys and turned around, opening the car door.
However, he quickly realized that Cabrielle didn’t budge, standing where she was.
“Cabrielle, do you think you’re in a position to negotiate?” Zachary threatened. “I’ve come all this way to find you and take you back and apologize. Don’t push your luck. Remember, you belong to the Seavers family, and I still hold your contract.”
Upon hearing this, Gabrielle suddenly burst out laughing.
She took a step and positioned herself in front of Zachary. As she lifted her gaze to meet his, a hint of derision glistened in the depths of her eyes.
“You’re threatening me? Aren’t you supposed to be begging for my help? Your attitude seems to indicate otherwise. With that lousy tone of yours, why should I go anywhere with you?” Gabrielle said, a smile playing on her lips.
Zachary was so infuriated by her words that he almost burst a vessel.

“Gabrielle, don’t push your luck. Even if you’re married into the Zechman family, you are still connected to the Seavers family by blood. What do you think the Zechman family would do if they found out you’ve just been taken back by the Seavers family? Their intention is to find someone to bring luck to their family. It means they undoubtedly want Chloe! If your identity is revealed, the Zechman family would surely have you killed based on their rules,” Zachary said in a hushed.
tone.
Gabrielle almost burst into laughter upon hearing his words.
She looked at him as if he was a complete fool.
“Maybe you could go in and talk to them? Isn’t the bodyguard with us? I could ask him to come over and listen, then he can pass the message to Jonathan later. Gabrielle suggested.
Immediately, she beckoned the bodyguard with her hand.
The bodyguard strode toward her quickly, respectfully inquired, “Mrs. Zechman, what can I do for you?”
“Hey, he has something to tell you. Relay it to Jonathan,” Gabrielle said, noticing the constipated expression on Zachary’s face.
The chill in her eyes intensified as she glanced at him, saying, “Well, I’ve called the bodyguard over. Why are you silent now? Should I speak for you?”
Gabrielle raised an eyebrow.
Right then, Zachary was overwhelmed with frustration. Despite his outrage, he was unable to vent.
He thought he had Gabrielle right where he wanted her, assuming that his threat would scare her into submission. He believed that once she was intimidated, he could seize the opportunity to pressure her into helping him gain the support of the Zechman family.
He was confident he had thought of everything, but unexpectedly, Gabrielle didn’t take the bait.
