“It seems that over the years, I’ve been too lenient. Someone actually dares to target the Zechman family. Do they really believe that because we the Zechman family, tend to keep a low profile, they can manipulate us as they please!” Arthur said coldly.
His large hands were tightly gripping the armrests of the wheelchair.
When Arthur met Gabrielle’s gaze, his gaze had softened somewhat.
“Gabrielle, don’t be afraid. I will take care of everything. I won’t let these issues affect you and John. However, as things stand now, not many people are aware of the matter of you bringing luck upon Jonathan. Your identity probably can’t be revealed for now. Otherwise, these people will target you. Live your lives well and leave the rest to me. Arthur said with unwavering determination.
He exuded an aura of authority. His powerful demeanor was so commanding that it could make one hold their breath
Gabrielle was somewhat taken aback. She had thought that she was merely there to bring luck upon Jonathan. She had even thought that once Jonathan recovered, the Zechman family would have regrets.
Unexpectedly, that wasn’t the case. It wasn’t hard to discern from Arthur’s expression that he was quite pleased with that marriage of convenience. He even went as far as to include her in the future plans of the Zechman family.
That left Gabrielle utterly puzzled. After all, although she was the flesh and blood of the Seavers family, they had never treated her kindly.
Jonathan fell silent. his gaze thoughtful as he looked at Gabrielle. His deep. muffled voice echoed again, asking. “So, what if the same thing happens again? What if someone schemes against Grandpa in the same way, trapping him in the Zechman manor and making him unable to leave? What if his life gets threatened? Is there a solution?”
Jonathan’s voice was subdued, but it still carried a powerful force.
When it came to matters of metaphysics, he naturally couldn’t make decisions on his own.
In that situation, even if he were to surround himself with countless bodyguards, it would be pointless.
After a moment of silence, Gabrielle finally uttered in a soft voice, “Tm not sure if my judgment is accurate, but I need you to go to the century–old tree in front of the Zechman manor. Check if there’sany loose soil on the left side. If there is, dig down twenty centimeters and see if anything is beneath.”
Jonathan wore a serious expression, giving her a slight nod.
“Keep Grandpa company and have some coffee. I’ll be back shortly,” Jonathan said in a husky voice, clearly working through
some emotions
Arthur sat there, watching as Jonathan stood up and walked away. A glint of surprise flashed in his eyes, and he said in a tone of disbelief, “Gabrielle, you’re quite something.”
“Hmmm?” Cabrielle was somewhat puzzled.
Arthur chuckled, and a smile spread across his weathered face, significantly softening the stern expression between his brows.
He slid the pastries toward her, casually pouring her a cup of coffee as he said. “My grandson is quite stubborn. He doesn’t listen to anyone, not even me. However, he’s always heeding your words! That’s very good!”
A sharp glant flashed in Arthur’s eyes.
At that moment, the more he observed Gabrielle, the more pleased he became. Who would have thought that arranging this marriage back then would land as such a treasure?
When that matter was mentioned. Gabrielle became even more puzzled

Arthur fell silent.
He seemed lost in thought as he gazed at the pond nearby. After a moment, he finally said, “Over the years. John has been. plagued by illness. Despite trying all kinds of medication, nothing could cure him. It’s quite peculiar. 1 had a sudden dream about seven months ago. It suggested that a joyful event could dispel the illness from a gravely sick person. At first, I didn’t think much of it. However, it was only a few days ago when John’s illness took a severe turn that the Lefevre family sent our a death notice, claiming he wouldn’t last a month. That’s when I remembered that dream. At that time. I didn’t have the chance to consider whether you were willing to marry. I had my own selfish reasons, wanting to preserve the lineage of the Zechman family. Hence. I proposed the idea of a union to the Seavers family, and they agreed. It seemed like a perfect match, and I didn’t expect you to have medical knowledge. Now that John’s complexion has improved from before, you really are a blessing to our family”
Arthur’s eyes were welling up with emotion.
He had spent his entire life as a soldier, experiencing the battlefield and taking lives.
Even though he had nearly lost his life out there and hadn’t shed a single tear, he felt a jarring pain in his heart at that
moment
Reflecting on how the Zechman family had been virtuous for generations yet didn’t meet a virtuous end, Arthur was filled with shame. If anything were to happen to Jonathan, he wouldn’t be able to face their ancestors in the afterlife.
“Did you have a dream in which someone advised you to bring luck upon somebody?” Gabrielle asked with a furrowed brow, Something about this situation is clearly off. After all, what are the odds of such a coincidence happening in the world! The more convenient the circumstances, the more suspicious they become, let alone these subtle hints.
“Yes.” Arthur quickly nodded.
Arthur’s heart was also left hanging in midair when he saw Gabrielle furrowing her brows.
He looked at her pensively and asked softly, “Gabrielle, do you sense anything amiss?”
Gabrielle took a bite of a pastry and said. “There’s nothing wrong, per se. It just feels too coincidental. The dream suggested that you find someone to bring luck upon somebody, and then, seven months ago, the Seavers family suddenly called me back home. The timing is too coincidental. The Seavers family found me, but they didn’t announce to the public that they found their biological daughter. Yet, when the Zechman family planned to celebrate, they pushed me into the spotlight. To outsiders, the daughter of the Seavers family is Chloe, but I, the biological daughter they’ve only recently found, am the one chosen for the joyous occasion
Her words instantly altered Arthur’s complexion
He hadn’t given it much thought before, but then, with Gabrielle’s reminder he also felt that something was amiss.
“How could the Seavers family possibly share my thoughts? Has someone else manipulated the Seavers family, or have I been led by the nose by them?” Arthur asked himself in a hoarse whisper.
He was always resourceful and measured in his actions, yet he was unaware that someone was actually plotting against them
It seemed he had been out of sight for too long, and some people had already started to dismiss him.
“Maybe I’m overthinking, or perhaps it’s just a coincidence… Gabrielle murmured softly.
After all, it was merely speculation, with no evidence to back it up.
“Is there really such a thing as coincidence in this world‘ John has already told me about the Seavers family’s treatment toward you so dont worry! Since you’ve married into the Zechman family, you are now part of us. If anyone from the Seavers family dares to bully you they’ll have to see if the Zechman family approves of it first. Arthur slammed his hand onto the armrest of his wheelchair, clearly angered
When he lost his temper, Jonathan returned with a serious expression on his face.
In his hand, he held an object smeared with mud, delicately wrapped in red cloth Given the vibrancy of the color, it was evident that the object had been recently placed inside Hence, the color of the fabric had not faded

Jonathan placed the object on the stone table, his broad palm clenched into a fist. After a brief pause, he finally said, “I found this by the old tree. Judging by the color of the red cloth, it hasn’t been buried for long”
Seeing the situation. Arthur reached out to grab it, but Gabrielle held him back
