As soon as I stepped into the Federation conference hall, I saw Liam and Eva. Liam noticed me almost instantly as well.
He walked toward me in excitement, trying to reach for my hand, but then he saw Zach standing behind me. In an instant, his excitement turned into anger.
“Lily! Who is he?”
I stepped aside politely so Liam could get a clearer look at Zach.
“What’s the matter? Instead of worrying about him, shouldn’t you be paying attention to Eva’s feelings?”
After speaking, I turned and glanced at Eva, who had been left behind by Liam. Our eyes met, and Eva immediately put on her usual pitiful expression.
Following the direction of my gaze, Liam suddenly gave a mocking smile.
“Enough. A lost child can always be replaced. You don’t need to hold this much resentment toward Eva over such a small
matter. I am the Alpha of the entire pack. If you have a problem, talk to me.”
Just as Liam was about to continue speaking to me, Zach stepped in front of me just in time. I felt a rush of relief. After all, even seeing Liam’s face made me
sick.
Liam, who had never been treated this way by me before, completely lost control. Ignoring his image entirely, he began shouting in the middle of the hall.
“Who do you think you are? You dare interrupt a conversation between me and my mate? Get out of the way!”
But Zach remained firmly in front of me. “Lily doesn’t want to see you. I suggest you leave.”
Before he could finish, Liam had already shoved Zach to the ground and began punching him repeatedly in the face.
Liam may have come from a remote pack, but his strength was unquestionable. Soon, blood appeared at the corner of Zach’s
mouth.
I rushed forward and kicked Liam away with all my strength, shielding Zach behind me. “Liam, why are you hurting an innocent person? Zach and I are just superior and subordinate.”
I returned to Liam the exact same words he had once used on me. Liam stared at me in disbelief, as if still trying to figure out whether I was faking this or truly serious.
“Lily, get this straight. I am your mate. He is just a subordinate.”
I didn’t bother with him. I helped Zach to his feet and carefully checked if he was injured anywhere else. “Zach, are you feeling any discomfort?”
Zach gripped my hand tightly, his expression fragile and innocent. He said, “No, thank you for your concern.”
Liam’s face turned red with rage. He shoved Zach hard.
“Lily, how can you act so intimately with someone else in public? Do you even care how I feel?”
