“Mr. Adler, Miss Yvonne Adler asked me to bring this to you. She must’ve heard you like jaunine and plant it.” From the maid’s words, it was clear she hadn’t realized this jasmine was the very one she’d once thrown away
With his hand covering his lips, Charles coughed softly.
The maid continued admiring the flower, “Miss Adler is really amazing. Growing such a beautiful flower must’ve taken a lot of care. I bet she put a lot of effort into it.
I don’t know if it’s just me, but the scent of this flower just makes me feel so relaxed.” She gazed at the jasmine with fondness, finally leaving reluctantly.
Charles leaned against the headboard, closing his eyes.
The bitter medicinal smell in the room was gradually replaced by the jasmine’s fragrance. He’d only smelled such pure floral scent when he was very young.
A scene unfolded in his mind.
In the mountains at dawn, dense
tree crowns blocked the sky, but dappled light still fell on the wild grass. The birds sang melodiously, dew glistened on the grass tips, and countless wildflowers dotted the landscape.
For a moment, Charles felt as if he was in that scene, his body unusually relaxed.
Before he knew it, he slid down and fell asleep.
Seeing the towering buildings and the various people coming and going. Yvonne stared for a few seconds before trying to climb back in the car.
Reena quickly bent down to pick her up. “Miss, don’t be scared. This is just a mall.”
Lifted up, Yvonne gradually stopped struggling and just hung limply in Reena’s arms.
Some passersby chuckled at the sight, and a lady pointed at Yvonne to her five–year–old son, whispering, “Look, that little girl doesn’t want to walk and is throwing a tantrum for her sister to carry her.”
Yvonne’s face turned red when she heard this, and she immediately straightened up.
Reena couldn’t help but smile, carrying Yvonne inside.
She took Yvonne to a children’s clothing store and let her pick her favorites.
The staff’s enthusiastic attitude made Yvonne very uneasy. She looked back at Reena with pleading eyes.
In the shows Yvonne watched, these fancy stores were usually very expensive. After a round of sales pitches, she turned red- faced, and she ended up choosing none, twisting her skirt in her hands.
The staff, sharp–eyed, noticed the high–end value of the dress Yvonne was wearing and thought she didn’t fancy ** ir clothes. With regretful looks, they watched her leave.
“Didn’t you like the clothes inside, Miss?” Reena asked after they exited the store.
Yvonne shook her head shyly, replying, “Reena, we don’t have money
Hearing this, Reena was taken aback and burst out laughing. “You’re worried about not having money, Miss?”
