Jeremy refused to admit defeat. He crouched down and waved a cat treat in front of the Ragdoll, which was lounging lazily
in its bed.
“Hey, little kitty,” Jeremy coaxed. “Come here.”
The cat didn’t budge. It let out a half–hearted meow before promptly ignoring him.
“Stupid cat.” Jeremy scowled and turned away in search of another target.
Behind him, Vic chuckled. “That’s so rude, Jeremy. With a tone like that, of course it doesn’t want to play with you.”
Jeremy didn’t argue. Instead, he tossed the cat treat into Vic’s hand. “You try.”
Settling down beside him, Jeremy watched Vic with amusement, as if anticipating a show.
Vic was confident. Ever since childhood, he had a way with animals.
Back then, the neighborhood’s stray cats and dogs always stuck around him.
He crouched down, waved the treat in front of the cat, and gently called, “Kitty, come here.”
Despite his repeated attempts, the cat remained unmoved. Instead, it curled up deeper into its cozy nest and went back to sleep.
Vic blinked and thought, ‘This is embarrassing.‘
An awkward silence followed. Smirking beside him, Jeremy didn’t say a word, but his expression spoke volumes.
Vic was silent for a moment. Frustrated, Vic set down the cat treat and, with no grace whatsoever, muttered the same insult.
“Stupid cat,” he scowled.
Yvonne, watching the scene unfold, was speechless.
She parted her lips as if to say something but hesitated and swallowed her words.
Instead, she tiptoed over and crouched beside the sleeping cat, gently stroking its soft fur.
Drawn by her scent, the little cat perked up almost instantly and nuzzled against her affectionately.
Then, as if she were catnip itself, the other cats in the room suddenly swarmed toward her.
Small as she was, Yvonne was quickly engulfed in a sea of fur. She didn’t know which cat to pet first and could only look helplessly at her two older brothers.
“There are so many cats around me,” she exclaimed, her voice filled with wonder and mild distress.
On one hand, someone with no natural affinity for animals struggled to get a cat’s attention.
On the other, someone who attracted animals effortlessly was buried under a pile of them.
Seeing this, Jeremy instinctively reached for his phone to snap a picture, only to realize he didn’t have it on him. Without hesitation, he reached for Vic’s phone instead.
Naturally, he failed.

Vic’s approach was far more professional. He found the best angles, adjusted the composition, and even guided Yvonne on how to pose.
Even the staff nearby were drawn in, murmuring in admiration. “Wow, these pictures look amazing,” one of them remarked.
Just then, a few youngsters passing by the glass atrium noticed the scene and stopped.
“They’re taking pictures!” a girl said excitedly, turning to her brother. “Let’s go in, too. This place looks great for photos.”
As more people entered, Vic put away his phone.
With the growing crowd, he glanced at Yvonne, who was still surrounded by cats and had even ended up sitting on the floor.
Chuckling, he walked over, lifted her back onto her feet, and dusted off the cat fur clinging to her clothes.
Since Yvonne was wearing white today, the fur stood out clearly.
Just then, the two girls who had entered moments ago gave her outfit a few extra glances.
Vic noticed. He lifted his gaze and met their eyes. After two seconds of silent confrontation, they were the first to look away.
.As he led Yvonne a few steps away, he overheard one of the girls whispering.
“Who is she? Wearing white to someone else’s engagement party? Isn’t that bad etiquette?” the girl muttered to her companions.
Vic glanced at them and quickly realized he didn’t recognize them.
Since they seemed unfamiliar, Vic assumed they must be relatives from the groom’s side.
Before this, he hadn’t even met the man dating Laura, let alone his relatives.
So, it was safe to assume they didn’t know him either.
Irritated but unsure how to respond, Jeremy glanced back at the girl. The moment she realized she had been caught, she fell silent awkwardly. Only then did Jeremy suppress his frustration and walk away with a stiff expression.
Inside the glass atrium, the girl muttered, “So aggressive.”
“He’s good–looking, but I didn’t expect him to be so fierce. Feels like the type to be a domestic abuser in the future,” she rambled on.
Her friend cleared her throat and nudged her with her elbow. “Dawn, stop it. You might offend someone.”
“But I was just speaking the truth,” Dawn Jill retorted defensively.
A man who had come along sensed the tension and quickly tried to smooth things over.
“It’s alright, she’s just a kid. Maybe she wanted to match the theme,” he said.
Unfortunately, he clearly didn’t understand how girls‘ minds worked, and his words did nothing to ease the situation.
Already irritated, Dawn got even angrier and shot him a sharp glare.
“So, I was wrong?” she asked, half threatening and half aggrieved.
Her sister–in–law was the eldest daughter of the Adler family, the central figure and most important person of today’s

She even heard the Adler family had taken this engagement seriously, preparing their outfits six months in advance. Every color in the theme was meticulously chosen to highlight the engaged couple.
In her mind, she had simply spoken the truth. They should have followed the rules if they didn’t want people to talk.
The man wanted to say something else, but another girl in the group cut him off.
The girl considered it and found Dawn’s reasoning fair. Given the Jill family’s rising status and Dawn’s admiration for her sister–in–law, it was natural for her to speak up.
“I had a sister–in–law like that, I’d do the same,” she thought.
Besides, those people had already lett, so there was no point dwelling on it.
She then turned to Dawn and quickly changed the subject. “Forget them. Come on, hold a cat, and I’ll take a picture of you.”
But when she looked down, she realized the cats that had crowded together earlier had all wandered off.
No matter how much they called for them, the cats ignored them completely. They were nothing like the affectionate little animals they saw earlier.
Far from the glass atrium, Jeremy was still fuming. The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. Holding it in was unbearable, so he turned to Vic to vent.
“We even made space for them earlier, and then she goes gossiping about us behind our backs? What a horrible person,” Jeremy fumed.
Carrying Yvonne, Vic glanced at him and said, “Calm down. Have you met them before?”
“Nope. First time,” Jeremy replied.
The two families ran in different social circles, so it wasn’t surprising that he didn’t know anyone from theirs.
Also, since he was the youngest in the family and not expected to take on significant responsibilities, it made sense that he hadn’t encountered them before.
Thinking about the girls, Jeremy mentally revised his first impression of his future brother–in–law and gave him a solid one-
star review.
If some people believed in guilt by association, Jeremy believed in dislike by association.
Brushing off the fur from Yvonne’s white, princess–like dress, Jeremy muttered, “What a beautiful dress.”
Jeremy had to admit that Yvonne looked adorable in her white dress. As he patted the fur away, he mused, “Our aunt picked the right outfit for you today. You look like a cute little angel.”
Hearing this, Yvonne shook her head and corrected him in her soft, childlike voice, “It was Grandpa who wanted me to wear this.”
Richard had envisioned Yvonne as the perfect little good luck charm.
With her delicate features, she looked just like a symbol of purity and joy. Dressed in white with two little pigtails, she was meant to bring a touch of innocence and warmth to the engagement party, making the atmosphere even more cheerful.
This beautiful thought led Richard to suggest she find a white outfit after returning home.
