Chapter 78
The night breeze was chilly, rustling the leaves with a soft whisper.
Other than the unknown sounds of animals in the forest, there was only the faint rustling sound of footsteps.
After walking for a long time, Kelvin looked back and could only see a few faint glimmers of light through the trees.
He shone his flashlight and saw a small pavilion diagonally in front of him.
Stepping on the green brick path beneath his feet, he walked
over.
“Daddy… Yvonne’s childish voice was especially clear in the quiet environment.
“Mm. Kelvin lowered his gaze to her and noticed that her mouth was covered by her coat. Thoughtfully, he adjusted the fluffy jacket, pulling it down slightly.
“What’s wrong?” His voice was low and hoarse, adding some warmth to the night.
“I want to walk by myself.” Yvonne looked up at him with wide, expectant eyes.
In the dim light, her delicate face resembled a little doll, like a lucky charm come to life.
Kevin frowned at her words.
He adjusted his hold on the little girl before asking, “Am I not holding you comfortably?”
She quickly shook her head. “It’s comfy! But I just want to walk by myself.”
“Alright.” Kelvin didn’t argue. Before setting her down, he gently asked, “Can you stand steadily?”
“Sure.
He bent down and placed Yvonne on the ground. The moment he let go, his arms suddenly felt empty. It was something he wasn’t quite used to.
He placed the flashlight on the stone table in the pavilion behind them, casting a warm glow. He crouched down, carefully supporting Yvonne as she took her first steps forward.
Their shadows stretched long in the light, painting a story–like scene of a father, naturally cold and distant, now showing a striking contrast as he gently guarded his unsteady, toddling daughter.
The moment Yvonne touched the ground, she wobbled a little.
She swayed and fell straight into Kelvin’s arms.
Yvonne turned around and realized that her father was right behind her.
After a few seconds, she got up from his arms and slowly walked toward the trees beside the stone path.
She walked slowly, while Kelvin followed behind.
She soon bumped into a large tree and, feeling a bit tired, leaned against it to rest.
She looked up at the dense forest above her.
She didn’t know what to do, but she could feel some strength in her body by staying here. She wasn’t as sleepy as before.

Chapter 78
The leaves rustled as Kelvin glanced back.
By now, the flashlight’s beam could no longer reach this spot.
Seeing that Yvonne still wanted to go further in, he told her not to move for the time being, before turning back to get the flashlight from the stone table.
It was very close and only a few steps away,
Just as he stepped into the pavilion, he noticed a small green thing slowly floating toward him from the other side.
Thinking it was just a firefly, he didn’t pay much attention to it.
But when he picked up the flashlight and looked up, several more had appeared.
They seemed to have appeared out of thin air and flew in the same direction.
As they got closer, Kelvin finally saw what they looked like.
They were round, the size of rice grains, and covered with luminous bodies, but they were not fireflies.
In just the blink of an eye, even more of those little lights filled the air.
Out of the corner of his eye, countless tiny green lights emerged from the grass and leaves.
Before he knew it, he was surrounded by these glowing specks, flickering like scattered stars.
As if thinking of something, Kelvin sharply looked back.
All those lights were drifting toward Yvonne, just five meters away.
It was an utterly surreal sight.
The green lights swarmed toward her as if they had finally found a home.
The moment they touched Yvonne’s skin, they melted like water and disappeared.
At some point, the thick coat that had been wrapped around Yvonne had slipped to the ground. Now, a delicate little figure clung to the tree, her eyes wide with wonder, just as fascinated by the scene as he was.
Kelvin shifted the flashlight away, careful not to shine it directly on her.
He didn’t step forward. Instead, he remained still, even controlling his breath, afraid that the slightest disturbance might scare these tiny glowing creatures away.
He didn’t even dare to step forward and drape a coat over her.
As he waited, a rustling sound suddenly came from the surrounding bushes.
Birds chirped in the forest and flapped their wings as they flew over.
Kelvin’s expression suddenly changed when he heard the sound of moving through the forest.
He reached behind his waist and pulled out something cold.
Holding it in his hand, he took out his communicator and pressed the red dot on it.
With a click, the bullet was pushed into the chamber, and the gun was ready to fire.

Chapter 78
He slowly moved the flashlight in the direction of the sound.
Kelvin took measured, deliberate steps, slow and steady.
He hadn’t wanted to disturbs his daughter, but now he had no choice but to cut the night short.
To avoid alerting whatever was in the shadows, he did not make a sound.
By the time he reached Yvonne’s side, the little girl hadn’t even noticed when he got there.
The rustling in the grass grew louder, Kelvin bent down and picked Yvonne up with one arm.
He was strong, his muscles firm under his clothes.
“Daddy, what’s in your hand…”
Before she could finish, a big dark shape jumped out of the grass.
Its target was clear. It was coming straight for them.
As it leaped. Kelvin saw it clearly,
It was a wolf.
His eyes turned sharp in an instant as he aimed at its head and pulled the trigger.
The gunshot was as swift and precise as his actions.
With just a little hesitation, the wolf would have reached them.
The moment the bullet was fired, the large wolf collapsed to the ground and was silently dead.
-At the same time, the gunshot startled all the little green lights.
They scattered in all directions as if they were frightened, like startled birds fleeing their perch.
Piercing wolf howls echoed through the night–shrouded forest.
Kelvin bent down, picked up Yvonne’s fallen coat, and hastily wrapped it around her head, shielding her bewildered face.
The bodyguards who stayed outside rushed over quickly. Their expressions turned grim as they spotted several eerie green eyes glowing in the darkness.
“Boss, take your daughter and leave first.”
Kelvin did not hesitate and left with Yvonne in his armis.
Yvonne had no idea what was happening. She kept trying to pull the coat off her head, but every time she peeked out, her father would cover her up again.
As a result, she could only hear banging sounds and could not see anything.
Soon, she was placed on a warm
Finally, she could pull the coat off her face.
“Dad?”
Kelvin sat in the driver’s seat, his voice a little hoarse. “Something happened. We’ll come back next time.”

“Oh…” Yvonne wanted to say that she was already feeling much better and that there was no need to come back next time.
But she sensed that her father wasn’t in a good mood, so she didn’t say anything.
A minute after the two of them got into the car, the bodyguards behind them ran back.
Kelvin opened the window and glanced at the number of people. After confirming that no one left, he started the car.
Just as they were about to drive away, a bodyguard’s shocked voice came through the car’s communicator.
“Boss, the road is blocked! There are many animals heading up the mountain along the road!”
