That Came Ch 7

That Came Ch 7

Chapter

With my headphones on, Callum’s yelling rang so loud it made my ears ache

I turned the volume down, listening to his screaming voice crackle through the linethen let out a quiet laugh

Callum,I said, have you forgotten? I was never married to your brother. I was just his girlfriend. Even if I got pregnant and

had a miscarriage, I wouldn’t feel guilty toward him. And are you really going to pretend you don’t know who the father of the

child was?”

That only made him angrier. His voice broke as he shouted, Diana! You’re the one who is sleeping around! How the hell

would I know whose bastard you were carrying? If you come back now, I’ll forgive you on my brother’s behalf! But if you

don’t, don’t ever think about seeing me again. I’ll have my brother’s grave movedyou won’t get to see him ever again!”

The phone trembled in my hand. A dull numbness spread through my fingers

A flood of disappointment rose up from somewhere deep inside me

I didn’t know if Callum had truly forgotten, or if he was just pretending to

But I never thought he’d use Sean’s resting placehis brother’s peaceto threaten me

I went quiet. So did he, for a moment

Then came the sound of him taking a deep breath. His voice softened, falling into that familiar rhythm

Dianacome back, please. I don’t care if you were with someone else. As long as you come back, none of it matters.”

I let out a short, bitter laugh

Callum, I just told youI was never your brother’s wife. Who I choose to be with is none of your business. The only thing

your brother couldn’t let go of before he diedwas you. I’ve looked after you for five years. I’ve seen you fall for someone

new. That’s enough. I’m going to live my own life now. Goodbye.”
