The Hospital 27

The next morning, Serena woke up early to prepare breakfast. Her fridge was stocked with fresh vegetables and some meat, so she decided to make a pot of hearty mushroom soup. Once everything was carefully packed into a thermalware food jar, she headed to the office.

As she approached the crosswalk near her building, a Range Rover suddenly sped out of nowhere, grazing past her. Serena instinctively stepped back, narrowly avoiding harm, but her bag was not so lucky. It hit the car, sending the food jar flying, and the soup spilled across the pavement.

The Range Rover screeched to a halt, and the driver rolled down the window to toss out a wad of cash onto the ground. The driver barked, “We’re in a rush. Mr. Jenkins says this is your compensation!”

Serena slowly walked over, picked up the money, and approached the vehicle. Just as the driver prepared to step. on the gas, Serena raised her hand and slammed the cash right into his face.

She said firmly, “I’ve already taken a picture of your license plate. There are cameras here too. Be glad I wasn’t hurt otherwise, we’ll settle this in court.”

Her sharp features and icy demeanor made her strikingly beautiful, but her words were anything but sweet. The driver opened his mouth to retort, but before he could, the backrest of his seat was abruptly kicked.

The back door of the Range Rover swung open, and a young man stepped outaccompanied by woman in a short, revealing dress. The man wore a loud floral shirt and had a handsome yet cocky face, his eyes carrying hint of

mischief

He smirked as he pushed the woman aside and strolled toward Serena. “Hey there, gorgeous. Sorry about my driver- he doesn’t know how to behave. Don’t take it personally.”

He stopped just close enough to invade her space, his eyes boldly scanning her face and figure with unapologetic Intensity.

Serena pulled out her phone. She said flatly, “Give me your number. I’ll save it.”

The man’s smirk widened as he rattled off a string of digits. Then, Serena typed it into her phone and tucked it back into her bag, saying, “If I need anything, I’ll contact you.”

The man argued, “Now, hold on. You’ve got my number, but you’re not giving me yours? That doesn’t seem fair.”

“Your number’s enough. I’ve got to get to work.”

Serena bent down, picked up her food jar, and wiped it clear with a tissue.

The man’s eyes narrowed as he took another step forward. You work for Quade Group?

“Yes,” Serena replied curtly.

“Impressive,” he said, raising a brow. “Young and already working at Quade Group. But why not consider making some easy money instead? I’ll pay you 20 thousand dollars a month, no strings attached–just as long as you

Serena cut him off with a sharp glance. “The dark circles under your eyes suggest kidney problems. You should get that checked out she said flatly.

His face immediately darkened. Behind him, the woman in the short dress called out in a honeyed voice, Jenkins, darling, let’s go already!”

“Mr.

“Your girlfriend’s calling you,” Serena added, brushing past him. She strode away, her heels clicking against the pavement, the thermos in hand.
