Serena checked out her look in the restroom mirror. She carefully dabbed at a tiny wine stain on her dress with a tissue.
Suddenly, the sound of footsteps came from outside, and Candice walked in.
“Serena?” Candice’s face showed surprise, only to be quickly replaced by anger.
She had originally gone to the restroom downstairs, but the judgmental stares from a group of socialites had made her feel so uncomfortable that she came to the second floor instead.
To her dismay, she ran into Serena–the person she despised most.
Candice walked up to her, her voice low. “Serena, you must be feeling pretty smug right now, huh?”
“Are you talle
you talking about that incident with Lynn?” Serena turned off the faucet, her voice calm. “You brought that on yourself.”
“You got lucky this time.” Candice glared at her. Suddenly, she put on a smug smirk.
“So what if I bumped into Lynn on purpose? As long as Justin believes me, that’s all that matters. Oh, by the way, I’ve decided to start a bakery. In a few days, Justin will personally cut the ribbon for my grand opening.”
Serena dried her hands with the tissue and said, “Congratulations.”
Her calm demeanor made Candice feel as if she were punching on cotton. It was frustrating.
Unwilling to let it go, Candice pressed on. “Serena, you sound indifferent, but deep down, you must feel awful. After all, you’ve always wanted to open a bakery, but Justin never cared about your dreams.”
At these words, Serena finally turned to look at her.
Candice raised her chin and stared back smugly.
Serena said, “I am curious about something.”
you curious about?”
“What are you
“I’m curious about how you’ll handle it when Justin finally sees your true colors.”
Serena, taller than Candice and wearing heels, stared down at the latter. “Candice, don’t challenge me again, or you’ll regret it.”
Her gaze was icy and sharp, carrying an air of authority that made Candice falter.
Candice bit her lip and spun around. She retreated into a stall.
Serena watched Candice’s figure for a moment. Then, she turned and walked out.
Just as she exited, she bumped into a tall man.

She frowned. “This is the women’s restroom. You’re in the wrong place.”
The man carried a dark and unreadable expression on his face.
Serena immediately sensed something was off. Just as she was about to call for help, the man suddenly covered her mouth with one hand and pressed a cloth against her nose with the other.
She struggled desperately, but the stark difference in strength meant she was doomed.
The drug took effect quickly, and she lost consciousness.
Candice was still fuming inside the restroom stall when she thought she heard some unusual noises outside.
But the noises soon stopped.
She stayed in the stall for a long time, waiting until she was sure it was quiet before cautiously opening the door.
The restroom was silent.
She walked out warily and spotted a lipstick lying on the ground.
She remembered seeing that very lipstick in Serena’s hand earlier.
Reminded of the strange noises, Candice’s mind raced.
Could something have happened to Serena?
A flicker of excitement crossed her face as she picked up the lipstick and tossed it into the trash, acting as if nothing had
happened. Then, she left the restroom.
Downstairs, Candice returned to the hall, where guests were beginning to leave.
She approached Justin and wrapped her arms around his with a sweet smile.
“Justin, let’s go home
too.”
