Chapter 55
Justin turned to look at Candice and led her to the door.
Zane was already waiting in the Maybach, with Justin’s younger siblings, Damian and Mollie, occupying the backseat.
Justin gestured toward Candice.
“You leave first.”
“Justin, what about you?” Candice asked.
“I have something to take care of,” he replied.
Hearing this, Mollie immediately objected, “Why does she get to ride in the same car as us? I don’t want to be in the same car as
her! Being near a woman who pulled such underhanded tactics is a total embarrassment!”
Already annoyed, Justin snapped at Mollie, “Get out of the car, then!”
out of the
Mollie’s face turned pale. She angrily pulled Damian out of the car with her, storming off to hop into Lynn’s car instead.
Candice widened her eyes in hopeful anticipation after Justin seemingly stood up for her.
“Justin, you believe me, right?”
With a pitiful expression, she pleaded, “I really didn’t mean to bump into Lynn earlier. You know how clumsy I am. I was nervous
about coming here-
“Candice,” Justin interrupted her, his dark eyes unreadable, “don’t take me for a fool.”
Candice’s face froze.
She got into the car slowly, though she was still unwilling to give up.
“Justin, aren’t you coming with me? I can explain everything…“.
Tears began to fall as she added, “Lynn kept insulting me, saying I wasn’t good enough to be here. I was just so angry, so I
bumped into her when she wasn’t looking. I didn’t mean anything else by it. Please, believe me…”
Justin said only one thing. “There won’t be a next time.”
The car started to drive away.
Arthur stood behind Justin and watched the car disappear from sight. He casually remarked, “Justin, I’ve always been curious- what made you interested in Candice in the first place?”
Justin turned to face Arthur’s probing gaze.
Arthur clicked his tongue. He analyzed, “Candice is pretty for sure, but her looks are no match for Serena’s beauty. Everything

else about her is average–talents, personality, and intelligence. Overall, she’s just average.”
Justin remained silent for a while, his expression darkening. “Do I need to explain myself to you?”
“Don’t tell me you can’t even answer that,” Arthur teased.
Justin’s face darkened further..
In truth, Justin himself didn’t really know why he had taken an interest in Candice. Maybe he’d fallen for her in a fleeting moment the way she tilted her head to look at him under the streetlights, which reminded him of Serena from their college
days.
But Serena would never look at him with such admiration, nor would she act weak and coy, much less cling to him like a kitten.
Justin felt needed when he was with Candice.
Men were often like that–proud and self–centered, drawn to delicate women who highlight their strength and give them a sense
of achievement.
se, there was one more important factor–he had never thought Serena would truly leave him.
Of course,
Feeling irritable, Justin snapped, “Why are you still here? Aren’t you leaving?”
Arthur smirked. “I was just about to leave. What about you?”
“I’ll wait a little longer.”
“Are you waiting for Serena?”
Justin’s face fell again.
Before he erupted in anger, Arthur wisely turned away. “Alright, alright. You wait here. I’ll be off.”
He grabbed Joseph, who was still munching on snacks outside and dragged him away by the collar.
Justin waited for a while longer until he saw Wilson hurrying down the spiral staircase from the second floor.
Justin frowned. “Where’s
Serena?”
