Chapter 13
Harper
9:00pm ….
Hospital.
“Luckily the bullet didn’t hit anything serious, given the nature of the injury, it might cause Infection, but not to worry, we’d
administer antibiotics to help with that,”
“He’d most likely experience discomfort and pain when he wakes up, we might need to monitor him for a while”
I sat with my hands in between my thighs as I stared at Damon on the bed, what the Doctor said concerning his health earlier
replaying in my head.
He had been operated on immediately, and the bullet had been taken out of him immediately but he was still unconscious,
his face was pale white and his lips very red, he just laid still on the bed save for a tiny rise and fall in his chest.
I slowly raised my hands and folded it around my chest my eyes not leaving his face, I couldn’t even wrap my head around the fact that it couldn’t have been me in this bed as it could have been worse, I could have died! I shuddered at that thought,
who the hell would probably want me dead? Actually that’s not the correct question, I have a long list of people who would
want me dead, the question is, which of them did it!
My mom? Michelle? Novan ?! Or his parents?!.
But, what is it with this Damon guy? Should I still count it as a coincidence that he’s always around me anytime something
bad is about to happen to me? It just seems like he’s my guardian Angel, swoops in and somehow makes everything better.
The door slowly bursted open and two women rushed in, I slowly turned towards the door, it was his twin sister Daphne and an older woman, from the pictures Collin Showed me, it’s most definitely their mom, I got up to my feet and stepped aside a
little to give them space,
They both rushed towards him, Daphne reached out to gently touch his hands as her eyes brimmed with tears, she lifted her
hands and raised it to his hair gently stroking it.
“Thank you so much for bringing him here,” Their mother said turning to me, I looked beyond her shoulders and my gaze
took her hands in his and landed on Daphne, her full attention was on, Damon, she was now sobbing quietly as she gently caress it slowly, it was very obvious that they both loved each other, I suddenly got jealous of their relationship and wished I had a sibling who would love me so purely and wouldn’t take advantage of my love.
I slowly looked back at their mother, I nodded slowly, stepped backwards a little bit and bowed to her respectfully.
“I’ll take my leave now,” I muttered and with that I turned around and walked out of the room.
“I would not put this past Geraldine! I told Damon to be fucking careful! That woman is a devil!” I heard Geraldine grit out angrily as soon as I stepped out of the room, my movement stilled immediately I heard that, my hand still on the door knob, I slowly turned to peep in, she squeezed her hands into a fist wheezing as she turned to their mother, their mother in turn slowly stepped forward and wrapped her hands around her comfortingly, she broke down in tears in her arms and her mother patted her shoulders gently.
“I don’t know what I would have done if something had happened to him,”
“I wouldn’t survive it” she continued sobbing, I swallowed hard at the intimate scene playing in from of me, blinking continuously, I felt really guilty, all these happened because of me.
I gently stepped back and closed the door noiselessly, I exhaled deeply as I held my hand bag tightly and began to make my way out of the hospital, my heels generating soft clicking sound as I walked.

Immediately I got to the front of the hospital, Collin pulled up in front of me in my car, I gently stepped forward pulled the door open and stepped in, without saying a word, he slammed his legs on the accelerator and he drove away.
I stared wordlessly at the road ahead of me as different thought spiraled round my head, I couldn’t even bring myself to pick a line of thought as every thoughts poured in from different angles.
I wasn’t used to this life and really, I was barely keeping up, before I used to live so carefree, I didn’t have to bother about a lot
of things, I just do as Mothers asks, I don’t even have to do a lot of thinking, she makes all the decisions for me.
But now, I had to carefully examine and think every single thing through, I had to live in constant fear that the person next to me could just switch up on me and stab me in the back at anytime, I had to move forward while still watching my back simultaneously, it was tiring and a lot honestly.
“Did you find the person who did it?!” I muttered my voice barely above a whisper, through my side eyes, I saw him turn to look at me momentarily before turning on to the road.
“I did, he’s in police custody now,” I looked away from the road and turned to look at him, I stared at him intently as he drove on, how is he so good and swift, It’s how he selflessly does his job, I don’t know how far I would have gone or if I would even have gone any where far at all if he wasn’t my personal assistant.
“I didn’t waste anytime immediately it happened, he was on the rooftop of the building opposite, I was lucky to get to him before he could escape,” he explained probably figuring out that my prolonged staring at him was because I was curious as to
how he did it.
“I’ll stay in touch with the police, and I’ll update you,” he said as he came to an halt parked in front of my car, I nodded slowly in reply, grabbed my bag and reached for the door, just as I was about to step out, I paused and slowly turned to look at him.
“Thank you for everything” I whispered,
“I may not be the chatty type of boss you expected, I’m getting my emotions in place,” I added, his lips stretched into firm smile and he nodded slowly.
“Take your time,” he whispered, i blinked slowly and with that I pushed the car open and stepped out.
Next Morning.
I sighed deeply as I looked up and found myself in front of the hospital building, when did I drive myself here.
I placed my hands on the steering as I stared at the hospital building, I inhaled deeply and exhaled deeply, I was already here,
what’s the point
I grabbed my bag in the seat beside me, and stepped out of the car, I locked my car and made my way inside the hospital.
I gently pushed the door to his hospital ward open and walked in, he was seated quietly on his bed with a newspaper over his face and just as if he was alerted of my presence, he put the newspaper down and met my gaze across the room.
I slowly walked up to him and stood by his bed side, my bag held tightly in my hands by my side, I finally met his eyes and he met my gaze
“Why did you take the bullet for me!” I found the words flying out of my mouth without control, that wasn’t what intended to say, infact I don’t know what I intended to say but that was what came out of my mouth, he scoffed lightly at that,
“Well Good Morning to you too, and you’re welcome, don’t mention!” He replied sarcastically, just as I was about to reply to him, the door pushed open and his mother walked in
“Ohh, you’re awake!” She said delightfully as she made her way towards him with a basket in her hands, she carefully placed the basket on the table beside him and threw her hands around him in a tight hug.
“You didn’t think I would just die like that right?!” he asked with a smile and she chuckled as disengaged from the hug,

wiping out the streak of tears in her eyes.
“You’re here too,” she said turning to me beaming with a small smile, she wrapped her hands around me and moved me
closer to his bed,
“The doctor said, Harper here brought you herself to the hospital yesterday,” she said to him, he lazily lifted his gaze on her and landed it on me, he raised his brows tauntingly at me,
“Thank you so much dear, not everyone can do that for a stranger,” she said turning to me with a wide smile, Damon released a stiffled laughter, we both turned to him and I dimmed my eyes at him, mouthing words of threat at him, obviously he hadn’t told his mom that it was because of me he was here in the first place, and I’m really not a stranger, if she knew that her son could have died because of me then she wouldn’t be all smiley with me, and that was the last thing I wanted to deal with right
now.
“Have you had breakfast dear, you should wait and eat, I made breakfast,” She said as she let go of me, walked up to the
basket and began to take the food out of it.
“Oh no ma, thank you very much, I’ll pass, I was on my way to the office,” I said politely refusing the food.
“Don’t you
think it’s impolite to refuse an elder’s way of thanking you,” Damon imputed immediately, I slowly turned to look at him, my hands balled into a fist beside me, as a string of profanities escaped my lips, why is this guy so immatured!
“Don’t say no, I insist!” His mother said, there was just something about her that brought serenity and peace! And if I’m staying it was just because of that!
“Okay fine,” I muttered my gaze slowly hovered around the room and slowly landed on Damon, his eyes met my eyes and his lips slowly stretched into a taunting smile, the corner of his eyes wrinkling, like he was enjoying how inconvenient I felt.
If someone told me he planned this himself to get my attention, I definitely won’t doubt, Because what the heck!!
