Chapter 26
Harper.
“Harper” he whispered softly, his voice barely above a murmur. His eyes searching mine as if seeking something he couldn’t quite put into words. His touch around my waist was oddly satisfying, his closeness to me and his sweet smelling cologne swirled together overwhelming my senses. My heart raced betraying my attempt to maintain composure.
“I saw you leave the hall in a hurry, are you okay?!” He asked, I took a shallow breath and pulled myself away from him.
“I’m fine,” I muttered walking away from him, I could hear the click of his shoe against the tile and I knew he was coming
after me.
“Is it just me Harper or you’re giving me an attitude,” he said, I gently turned to face him as I got to my table, folded my hands across my chest and looked up at him. My lips pressed lightly against each other and my brows slightly raised.
“What attitude?”
“I thought we had gone past this Harper, we kissed!” He said.
“And?” I replied with a shrug, his brows furrowed and he stepped close to me,
“Harper are you going to pretend like nothing happened between us?” He said to me, I could see his face knotted in confusion
as he stared at me.
“Whatever happened yesterday was a mistake, it shouldn’t have happened, what should be between us is business, so let’s maintain a Formal relationship, Amen?!” I uttered firmly, his face slowly loosened but it was obvious he was still quite confused with my attitude, I mean we had a good conversation yesterday and so far everything seemed to have been going
fine until now.
“Harper, is this because I had a conversation with Michelle?” He asked, I scoffed lightly rolling my eyes to the back of my
head.
“I don’t care about you flirting with each other!” I replied sharply although not yelling, he nodded slowly and gently tucked
his hands into his pocket.
“Ohh so you were pissed about it,” he muttered, just as I wanted to speak, a small knock came on the door, and it pushed
open, the both of us turned to look at who it was.
“What in the A4 paper world is going on here,” Collin muttered stumbling on all the scattered documents in the floor, he slowly looked up and his gaze met with Damon and I.
He cleared his throat immediately and stood up straight,
“I’m sorry, I had no idea you were in here, I’ll just leave and get someone to take care of this mess,” he said as he turned
around and grabbed the door handle.
“That’s fine, I was just leaving,” he said making Collin halt his movement, he slowly turned to me, passed me a small
burdensome stare before turning around to leave.
Immediately he got to where Collin stood he flashed him a small smile and bowed to him slightly.
“Thank you for the other day, I hope to see you around more often” He said to him, considering the ordeal that Collin narrated at their office, I could only wonder why he was telling him thank you.
With that Damon pulled the door open and stepped out of my office, I released the deep breathe I had no idea I was holding and I slowly dropped to my table for support, I limped into my chair and took my seat heavily on it.
“Collin,” I whispered, I paused and looked up at me, he raised his brows signalling that I go on with what I wanted to say.

“I think I might be having feelings for this guy”
Michelle.
“He’s so cute,”
“Did you see him mom, how he speaks? He’s so smart, he’s very composed and classy,”
“And when he smiles? Gosh! I couldn’t help but feel my heart race faster, he’s very different from the other rich kids,”
“You know what Mom, I think I might have found the perfect person! I want him!”
T
I could not stop talking about Damon ever since I met him, immediately after my conversation with him, I called my best friend to give her all the gist but she wasn’t available, she was at an important meeting, so I had no choice than to gush over
him to my mom because really, I just could not keep quiet about it.
“That’s good,” Mom simply replied, I was taken aback by her response, my eyes dimmed in confusion immediately, she
seemed like she was uninterested in what I was speaking to her about.
Mom had always been interested in everything I had to say, and her acting uninterested now is surprising the hell out of me.
“What do you mean that’s good?” I asked my face knotted in a deep frown. She sighed and slowly looked up at me.
“Look Michelle, I have more important things to worry about right now ” she replied, her voice still cold and uninterested
“Since when has my life become less important to you?!”
“Have you bothered to check the stock you invested in?!” She shot back as she pushed her chair backwards and got up from
her seat.
“Where is this coming from!” I asked equally standing up also.
“It coming from the realization that you’re not a very smart person! The stock market you invested in is plummeting, the
value is reducing ridiculously as it stands like this forget about any interest that’s if you even get your investment back to begin with! And you’re here gushing over a guy!” She yelled, I could literally see her veins popping out of her neck, her breathe coming out in ragged gasps.
“Relax, is that why you’ve gotten yourself so worked up? It’s not even been a month yet, it might be going down but do you think the investors are daft? Obviously they’ll do everything to make sure it rises again!”
“Don’t yell at me please! Take a chill pill, I don’t want to fight with you!” I added with a sullen pout as I folded my hands across
my chest.
“It will rise again? It would rise again!” she scoffed placing her hands on her hips.
“The same way your CGPA tried so much to rise but it did not!” She slammed.
“You just gave an absolute stranger the right to take all your shares with that useless risky venture!”
“Please please! Mom just stop it! Okay stop it! Incase you don’t know who you’re talking to, this is not Harper that you can speak to as you please!”
“Don’t even try to bring my personal life into this!”
“I already told you to calm down I’ll take care of it! “What more do you want to hear from me?” Just as she wanted to speak, my phone began to ring, it was my best friend Amy, I swiped on the receiver button and answered her call, I dropped the call and slowly turned to look at Mom.
“Whatever it is that is bitting you, get a grip on yourself, it’s so ugly to see you like this!” With that I turned around and stormed out of her office.
