Next day..
9:30 am
Harper.
A small knock came on my door, I slowly looked up from my door to the laptop as it pushed open, Collin walked in with
another lady behind him, she was well dressed in a short peach gown that stopped a little above her knee and a long blazer
jacket that reached down to her ankle, on a white stilettos, her hair was packed up in a tight pony tail with curly tendrils on
each side, she looked smart and quite cute.
“Good Morning,” Collin greeted with a respectful bow and she did the same, I nodded muttering a greeting in reply also as I
slowly leaned into my chair.
“This is Leslie, she’ll be your new Personal assistant,” he continued, I slowly turned to look at her and she flashed me a
nervous smile.
“Good morning ma, I’m happy to be working with you, I promise to not just do my best but give it my all” she said, I nodded
slowly at her with a small smile.
“That’s fine, you’re welcome on board, Collin will brief you on all the things you have to do,” I said to her and she nodded
slowly.
“We already prepared an appropriate desk for her here, just outside, opposite your office,” he said and I nodded slowly, I
picked up the remote from my table and turned off the blind on the door, they had already set up the small cubicle corner
there for her, I turned back to Collin and nodded slowly.
“That’s fine, you can go and show her around now, once you’re done, I need to see you” I said to him, he nodded slowly muttering an okay and they both turned around and stepped outside.
I sat up straight in my chair and picked up my phone but there wasn’t any notification, honestly I had no idea why I was expecting to get a message from him after what I said to him yesterday. I heaved a frustrated sigh and dropped my phone on
the table.
When I made up my mind to get my life back on track, I didn’t figure out that constantly thinking about another man would
be a part of it.

My phone began to ring, I suddenly jerked forward and picked it up, I released a disappointed exhale as soon as I saw that it was a text from Mr Henry, I swiped on the message and opened it.
It was a compiled file, the Title of it read “Alfred Brown”
I dropped my phone immediately decided to view it on my Laptop, without wasting anytime, I opened the file on my laptop.
It contained all the details of Alfred Brown, how he was employed, he was the coordinator of construction workers and all the awards he got for a job well done, I scrolled down to the reason for his termination and my eyes shone at what was written there. “Death due to food poisoning”
Death due to food poisoning how? They even went as far as attaching Autopsy results to prove
it

was actually food poisoning.
My phone began to ring, I looked down at it and it was a call from Mr Henry, I swiped on it and answered it,
“Did you get my message?!” He asked immediately the call connected, I nodded slowly almost forgetting that it was a call.
“I did, I did, did he really die of food poisoning?!” I asked him.
“That’s as far as I know, at the time of his death, I haven’t really started doing business with your parents” he replied to me

“You’re welcome” he replied and dropped the call.
I turned back to my laptop again and went through the files again, For DMW to invest so much in covering up this case, then
there must be something else in it. I needed to see Damon concerning this thing.
My phone beeped again signalling the arrival arrival of a new message. I picked it up and it was from Damon, the text I’ve
been wanting to see all Morning.
-Good Afternoon Harper. I know this is on such a short notice, but my mom would like you over for dinner tonight. This is all
to fulfill all diligence, It’s very fine if you won’t be available, I’ll explain to her-
-we shouldn’t refuse an Elder’s request right- I texted back.
-it’s not a big deal actually as this is outside of business walls, I already told her you might not be available, I don’t know why
she’s still insisting-
-it’s fine, I’ll be there- I texted back, after a few minutes the message ticked as read but he did not respond, I exhaled deeply
and dropped my phone back on the table. It wasn’t even feeling like Damon, did I push him that bad?.
The door to my office slowly went open and Collin walked into my office.
“I’ve introduced her to everything she needs to know,” he said as he approached me and I nodded slowly.
“Good, that’s good, thank you for putting all these together in such a short notice,” I said to him, he nodded slowly with a
smile.
“Ofcourse, Asides the fact that you’re nice to me, it’s still my job and I have to do it well” he said and I nodded with a smile.
He slowly walked up to me and placed his hands on my forehead,
“What’s wrong? You seem pale” he asked, I sighed and reclined in my chair, I slowly looked up at him above my lashes.
“Is it that obvious?” I muttered lightly, he gently stepped forward and wrapped his hands around me in a hug and I leaned into
him.
“After everything that Novan has done to me, I don’t know if this is the best thing for me,”
“It was all beautiful with Novan in the beginning also, I’m actually scared” I muttered against his body, I could feel his hand rub my back slowly. I had no idea that this was how it felt to have that one person that is constantly looking out for you and who you can be vulnerable with, I could almost call him my only family member now, he’s actually my only family member
as it stands.
“First I think you should try to stop fighting your feelings”
“You don’t have to date him, nothing is wrong with being friends right?”
“Be friends with him first and see how it goes,” he said, I slowly disentangled from the hug and looked up at him nodding slowly.
“I guess I have to apologize first for yesterday right?” I asked him, he chuckled lightly and nodded slowly.
“You should.”
“By the way the stock Market has finally plummeted, there should be an outburst anytime soon” Collin said to me, my lips slowly stretched into a smile.
