Chapter 20
Natalie was momentarily stunned by Jonas’s sudden shift in demeanor.
His piercing gaze and abrupt change in tone left her no choice but to steady herself. Forcing her voice to remain calm, she replied earnestly. “My mother’s name was Cara Harrison. She passed away during childbirth. Since my grandmother was from Nocriudor, she was buried in the Northern District there.”
Jonas’s thoughts swirled ‘Different. The name is different, and she’s not dead… Good. Everything is different. Otherwise, this little liar wouldn’t have
gotten away so easily!
The fury that had briefly surged in his chest was pushed back down, replaced by a cool indifference. Slowly, he loosened his grip, though he didn’t let go of her hand entirely.
Instead, his fingers curled around hers in a casual, almost playful hold, his thumb tracing absentminded circles on her soft skin.
His expression softened back into one of his typical nonchalance, but Natalie wasn’t fooled. His ability to flip between menacing and indifferent was enough to put anyone on edge.
The test with the raisin bread earlier had given her a bit of courage, though. Tentatively, she lifted her other hand, her cold fingertips brushing against the back of Jonas’s hand, which rested firmly on the car hood. Her delicate right hand trembled as it held his thumb back
Her voice softened, trembling slightly as she said, “Sir, thank you. If you hadn’t saved me earlier, I don’t think I would’ve made it
She wasn’t faking it. Her words faltered, her breath hitching as a wave of delayed fear washed over her. Her lips quivered, and when she spoke again. her voice cracked, raw with emotion. Please… Please don’t leave me behind. I swear, I really don’t know anything”
Jonas’s sharp gaze dropped to her hand, which had grown bolder as it rested against his. Her other hand, still held in his, clung to his thumb with a
pleading grip. She looked like a frightened kitten reaching out with tiny paws, desperate for warmth and security,
“Such a good girl; Jonas mused to himself, feeling the soft pressure of her hands. If I leave her here like this, I’d seem downright unchivalrous. But this little game of playing hard–to–get? Not so cute anymore.
His tone turned teasing, but his words carried an unmistakable edge as he squeezed his legs in further. “You’re talking as if I wouldn’t take responsibility after sleeping with you..
Natalie’s face flushed crimson. She instinctively tried to tug down her skirt, but Jonas added with a maschievous smirk. Then again, you did spend the night in my bed last night Technically, that counts. So, of course, Ill take responsibility. How about tonight? What do you want me to do!”
The insinuation hung thick in the air, dripping with wicked amusement. Though nothing had actually happened between them, the way Jonas delivered his words made them sound erotically sinful
the subject, her eyes caught
Having no choice but to rely on him, Natalie didn’t dare lash out or deny y his claim. Just as she was about to change th movement in the background.
From behind Jonas, Myla casually strode past, her presence commanding despite her silence. Slinging a rifle from her shoulder, she nonchalantly secured it back into a hidden compartment atop the vehicle.
As Myla moved around to the driver’s side, she caught Natalie’s wide–eyed gate and threw out a casual remark. “I didn’t hear a thing.”
Myla’s tone was light, but her mind was a wild stampede of disbelief and chaotic thoughts. Wain, when did this happen? Since when did they have sext And wasn’t he impotent? What on earth did I miss?
The comment, though seemingly innocent, was so blatantly suspicious it could’ve been the epitome of “guilty as charged“.
Natalie’s face turned an impressive shade of crimson, and she immediately lowered her head. But but we really didn’t have sex‘
Jonas glanced at her, noticing the way she practically tried to disappear into her own shoulders. Her head hang so low it looked like she wanted to bury herself into his chest.
With a soft chuckle, he leaned closer, his voice dropping into a deep, velvety tone laced with seasing affection.
“Why are you embarrassed I was the one ambushed in the middle of the night,” he said, his hand lifting to gently pinch the delicate tip of her ear, which was as red as the rest of her flushed face. “Hmm, sweetheart!”
“1–L.. last night, I was just cold” Natalie stammered, her voice a nervous tremor as she resolutely avoided his gaze. She couldn’t bear to meet his eyes, her mortification climbing by the second. If the ground could open up and swallow her whole, she’d dive in without hesitation.

Chapter 201
Above her, she felt a low rumble as Jonas chuckled, the sound reverberating through his chest, his breath ruling her hair. Natalie became painfully aware of how close her head was to his bare chest
Hesitantly, she glanced up, her gaze unintentionally colliding with the sight of his broad, muscular chest. The golden hue of his skin seemed to catch the light, emphasizing the chiseled lines of his torso, every inch exuding strength and raw masculinity.
Her eyes drifted downward for a split second before she realized where her gaze had landed–at the loose waistband of his pants, which clung low on his hips.
Mortified, Natalie immediately shut her eyes, as if doing so could erase the image from her memory. But closing her eyes only seemed to amplify her awareness of him, and his deep, sultry voice poured over her like warm honey
“So.. you get cold easily, huh?” Jonas murmured, the edges of his voice curling with amusement. “Seems like I’ll need to keep warming your bed every night then”
“Weren’t we supposed to be discussing something serious? Why… why is this getting more and more inappropriate? Natalie’s frantic inner monologue churned as she bit her lip, determined to regain her composure.
She forced herself to reply, her voice shaky but trying to sound firm, 11-1 just wanted to keep close to your leg for warmth. Y–you were the one who treated me like a pillow.”
Her voice softened involuntarily, the hint of shyness nuking her tone even sweeter. That gentle, almost libing quality in her words sent a wave of heat through Jonas, the sound wrapping around him like silk.
His cars tingled, his heart stirred–and so did his lips. The urge to kiss her grew, unbidden and relentless.
Without warning. he withdrew his hand from her thigh, only to cup her chin, his fingers lifting her face toward his. His thumb brushed her jawline with deliberate tenderness
When she squeezed her eyes shut, clearly too flustered to face him, he couldn’t suppress a low chuckle. “Sweetheart,” he murmured, his voice soft and coaxing, “remember to open your mouth in a second.”
As he leaned in, the distance between them shrinking to nothing. Jonas suddenly stilled. His head turned slightly, his sharp gaze flicking toward the
driver’s seat.
Myla had settled into the driver’s seat. sparkling with unspoken commentary.
and through the window, she was enjoying an uninterrupted view of the entire scene, her eyes practically
When Jonas’s gaze locked on hers. Myla didn’t even flinch. With a deadpan expression, she raised a hand and gestured for him to continue, as if she were a spectator encouraging the show.
Inside, however, Myla’s thoughts were anything but calm. He’s got some moves. Oh, so he isn’t prematurely menopausal or stuck in some kind of eternal teenage awkward phase. Nope, he’s just hit mating season, apparently. That cheeky bastard!
Although Jonas found teasing Natalie amusing, he had no intention of turning this into some showy display of affection. Myla’s interruption extinguished any lingering spark of desire in an instant
He stepped back, his expression cooling, and looped an arm around Natalie’s slim waist with practiced ease, tucking her neatly under his arm as though she weighed nothing
Before Natalie could fully process what was happening–or breathe a sigh of relief that Jonas wasn’t sudden weightlessness made her heart skip a beat.

She faded instinctively, trying to regain her balance, only to find herself deposited into the back seat of the car.
The car door slammed shut with a decisive thud, Jonas didn’t spare her a glance as he strode around to the other side and slid in, his movements smooth and deliberate
Natalie, now sitting stiffly, shrank toward the door. But when her gaze met his, those piercing blue eyes devoid of any warmth, she realized her reaction might have been too obvious.
Forcing herself to relax, she pretended to fumble with her seatbelt, secretively scooting back toward the center of the seat.
Jonas leaned back against the seat, his earlier annoyance fading as he observed Natalie. At first, he’d thought she was a bit ungrateful, but now, watching her sneakily inch closer to him, he couldn’t help but End is somewhat amusing.
He tapped his fingers against the seat, the rhythmic sound echoing in the quiet car. His posture was relaxed, almost lazy, but his piercing, sapphire blue eyes never left Natalie who was utterly Bustered. He suddenly said, “Natalie, the flirting’s over. Let’s get down to business.”
