Chapter 17
Delia’s POV
The room falls silent. All eyes are on me. The silence is defeating, causing my ears to ring from embarrassment. I clear my throat and adjust the glass vials in my hands, making sure that they do not fall, I follow Healer Anderson to the former Luna’s beside and pass the bottles to him…
“See? Even the Alpha King can see right through her. She’s nothing,” one of the other Healers quietly snickers to her close neighbors. They all chockle and cover their mouths. Their gazes are filled with nothing but judgment, ready to burn me at the stake if Soren or Bianca would just sw the word.
I know that the nobles have never liked me. I know that from the beginning, they have all looked down upon me and have laughed at my progress. Perhaps they are jealous of me and my natural skill
After all, I am just an ordinary girl, a commoner who has earned her spot as a lower level Healer. Sure, I do not come from immense wealth nor do I have a family that will be there to support me, but my perseverance alone makes me a better fit for the job than they ever will.
1 step away from Healer Anderson and retreat into myself pot at Lily’s side. I relax next to her presence and look down.
The group’s snickers do not stop. They continue to make nude pokes and jabs at me, even mentioning my looks and how I was far less pretty than Bianca. They even make a comment that I look like how Bianca would after not sleeping for a week.
“Please, keep quiet!” Healer Anderson quietly snaps, turning away from the former Luna. His hand rests on her while he administers the beginning stages of the treatment. “This is the Luna’s place! When treating, we must be quiet. Didn’t you know that?”
“But, Teacher,” Bianca interjects. She steps away from Soren’s side, dropping his hand as she stands in the middle of Healer Anderson, the group of she woll Healers, and Lily and I. “We should expel this commoner girl who has no Healing ability. She doesn’t deserve to stand here and participate in the healing of the former Lama! Soren, you agree with me, don’t you?”
All eyes turn to Soren in the room. He leans against a nearby couch that has a red flannel blanket hanging over the back. His eyes dart around the room before they land on me. He nods, expression firm and jaw clenched. Soren crosses his arms over his chest.
“Don’t call me “teacher“, girl, Healer Anderson narrows his eyes at Bianca. Her eyes widen, her body leaving its relaxed position of superiority. “I do not have students like you! Cella if my true student here, not you!”
Blanca opens her mouth to retort back but Soren rests a hand on her shoulder, stopping her before she can argue and cause more chaos in the roum. Healer Anderson’s gaze turns to me. I feel small when he looks at me yet I feel so seer.
“Celia, my student, please be my assistant while I treat the former Luna,” his volume is quiet and yet his words scream. Bianca’s head snaps in my direction, a scowl written all over her face. I ignore her and nod, taking my place at Healer Anderson’s side.
Minutes pass. The room watches us with close eyes. Healer Anderson and I murmur back and forth with each other as I assist him.
Whenever he asks, I lite the former Luna’s am, allowing him access to her body I gently place her arm back down and hold vials for him. When he asks for one, I pass it to him, watching as he drips a light blue liquid into her mouth
“Bianca. Please tell me why we are administering a holistic treatment today compared to modern sciences?” Healer Anderson’s question comes out of nowhere. I immediately know the answer, but Bianca is slow to respond.
I glance in her direction, as does everyone else, and we watch as she stammers and tumbles over her words. Nothing comes out of her mouth, just retidom sounds and blabbers. Healer Anderson raises an eyebrow, his hands hesitating to move onto the next step.
“It’s because the funner Lima’s condition is very rare, sir,” my voice breaks through the silence, “Her body in its current state is too fragile for Incase procedures, so a herbal remedy will help prepare for any upcoming treatinents needed.”
“Well done, Celia,” Healer Anderson nods his head with a smile. I return it and go back to aiding him with the Lima.
My gaze fits to Soren. His eyes are fixated on me, his lips slightly parted. Itis expression is soft. He looks at me with complete wonder. Itum my gaze away and collect all compresses that Healer Anderson placed on her body earlier.
After a few more minutes, Healer Anderson and I depart from the farmer Luna’s side. I hold all of the empty vials and materials, placing them back inside a big that is designated for trash and the collection of vials. Irum and stand next to Lily, chin held up high with my arms placed behind my back
“The former Lana’s condition is as expected. She is still in her coma tie to trauma and shock. It is a way for her body and mind to protect herself and is rarely seen in a ranking as light as hers,” Healer Anderson says to the room but his words are directed at Soren. “Under normal circumstances, only a mate can completely cure her disease. Since her husband, the former Alpha King, has already passed, there is no way for us to cure her through that roule”
“1 understand…well, please continue your best to aid her. Any remedy or method to bring her out from her come will be welcomed.” Soren
sighs. He approaches Healer Anderson, leaning his head in. He’s just close enough to where I can get a good grasp on what he’s saying “Is he condition somehow related to mine? Is the mate bond the only way to cure rare diseases like hers? Like.mine?”
“Maybe…we haven’t seen a case as severe as hers in a long time. Currently, only the revival of the mate bond can save her and perhaps it will save you as well ”
Soren’s lips press into a firm, yet disappointed line. The other Helaers in the room, as well as Bianca, avoid his sharp gaze. They probably think he is angry from Healer Anderson’s revelations, 1, on the other hand, know that Soren is only feeling one thing right now: disappointment.
I look around. Healer Anderson’s brows are knitted together as he rubs the stubble on his chin. Bianca and the trio of she–wolf healers huddle together, murmuring if any of them know of a cure or treatment that can help save the former Luma from her everlasting coma.
I gnaw at the inside of my cheek. Turning away from the group, I state out of the window and look upon the lake’s beautiful scenery. The sun hangs high in the sky, the water rippling along the coastline.
An image of my mother Dashes inside my mind. My eyes close as I look upon the memory. I remember her sitting me down at her desk inside our home. Her journal was open on the desk and I asked her what she was researching
