Chapter 47
Sean’s words left Eunice, Clara, Herbert, and Jacob speechless. Their faces said it all.
Eunice’s face had gone pale. She’d always thought Zoe was just spinning tales about her relationship with Shawn. But hearing Shawn’s voice on the phone shattered her illusions. She felt completely hopeless,
‘Damn it, Zoe, she thought. ‘Did she really manage to steal the guy I like? Is all of this actually true?‘
Shawn’s voice on the phone was gentle, like he was trying to back up Zoe’s story. “I’ve been asking you to take me home to meet your parents. If we’d met earlier, they wouldn’t be so worried. But you just wouldn’t let me,” he said.
Zoe laughed softly, kicking her foot playfully and looking shy. “Alright, you got me. But we’ve only just started dating. Bringing you to meet my parents right away feels a little rushed:
“Look, I just don’t want your parents to get the wrong idea about you,” Shawn said. “Why don’t I meet Mr. and Mrs. Evans next time? Then they won’t think you’re just dating some bad guy. They’ll be a lot more at case.
Zoe laughed, “Are you already thinking about proposing or something?”
Shawn paused for a second, then replied in a deep voice, “If you don’t think it’s too soon, I’m cool with it. It’s totally up to you.”
Zoe was a little taken aback. She’d only been joking, but Shawn was dead serious. He was really backing her up in front of everyone.
‘He’s actually pretty reliable, she thought to herself. ‘He didn’t blow off my request at all‘
“Alright, I’m serious now. Have a safe trip. Love you, bye,” Zoe said sweetly, then hung up the phone.
She looked up at the Evans family, her expression turning cool. “Do you believe me now?”
Clara hesitated and muttered, “You must’ve used some sneaky tricks to get Shawn hooked.”
But Sean shook his head. Shawn was a legendary warrior of Clusia and the future head of the Ludwig family.
Hooking Zoe up with Shawn would be a total game–changer for the Evans family. They’d be connected to the Ludwig family, and that meant a bright and prosperous future.
‘Guess I underestimated Zoe, Sean thought. ‘She might not seem like much, but she’s got some serious skills.
“Mom, Sean, you can’t believe her. That wasn’t Mr. Ludwig on the phone. Zoe probably got someone to fake it. Mr. Ludwig would never even look at her twice, Eunice said, her voice rising in disbelief.
Eunice just couldn’t accept that Zoe could actually charm Shawn. But Sean, who had seen how Eunice had humiliated Zoe, had a different take on things.
“Enough, Eunice. You were wrong. Apologize to Zoe right now,” Sean said sternly.
Eunice’s eyes widened in disbelief. “S–Sean, what?” she murmured, stunned.
Growing up, Eunice had always been the apple of everyone’s eye. Sean and her other brothers treated her like royalty, always making sure she never felt the slightest bit wronged.
So when Sean, who’d always been the softest on her, was now pushing her to apologize to Zoe, Eunice was stunned. She didn’t think Zoe deserved

Without another word, Zoe turned and walked upstairs. She could hear Eunice’s soft sobs as she walked away
Zoe wayed its her room for a bit, and soon enough, there was a knock on the door. She opened it to find Sean standing there.
“What’s up?” she asked, her voice will cool. She and Sean had never been close. In fact, they were practically strangers.

“Eunice was out of line. She’s still young and doesn’t know any better. I’m here to apologize to you on her behalf,” Sean said. But Zoe’s face didn’t budge.
Eunice was wrong, but he and her had been family for over ten years. Sean figured an apology should be enough to make it right.
“Got it. But I don’t accept the apology. Anything else?” Zoe replied, already starting to close the door.
Sean reached out and put his hand on the door frame. “She’s just young. Can’t you let it go?”
Zoe just gave a cold, mocking laugh. ‘So I’m supposed to forgive her just because she’s young?‘ she thought, her eyes hard.
She remembered how Eunice, jealous as a kid, tricked her into going into the wilderness. Zoe ended up lost out there for thirteen years, nearly dying over and over again.
‘Am I supposed to just brush this off because she’s young?‘ Zoe thought.
“No way,” Zoe said firmly. “Eunice is always trying to take what isn’t hers. I guess it’s all because you guys keep coddling and protecting her. No wonder she’s so rude.” She slammed the door shut.
