Chapter 12
Mom squeezed my hand gently and led me inside.
“From now on, just relax and enjoy yourself at home,” she said softly. “Do whatever makes you happy. If you don’t want to marry for the family, you don’t have to. Your father and I won’t push you anymore.”
I was so touched that I couldn’t find the right words. All I could do was hold her hand tighter.
The days that followed were peaceful and carefree. My parents and sister showered me with love and attention, and the house staff treated me with extra kindness. I slept in as long as I wanted, indulged in my favorite foods, and occasionally accompanied my sister to the family company. Life felt light and easy.
As for Shirley and Digby, I never sought out news about them. But given the scandal she caused trying to ruin me, it was impossible not to hear what happened next.
The investigation by the Securities Commission and the police concluded swiftly. The evidence against Davison Group for financial fraud and corporate bribery was undeniable. Shirley, as the primary culprit, was sentenced to ten years in prison. Digby, as her accomplice, received five. Their assets were seized, the company went bankrupt, and their once–glorious empire crumbled overnight.
Rumor had it that Shirley killed her baby while in prison, causing her health to deteriorate rapidly afterward. As for Digby, well, prison wasn’t kind to him either.
But none of that mattered to me anymore. All I knew was that my life had finally taken a turn for the better.
One afternoon, my sister approached me with a playful glint in her eyes.
“Cyril, do you remember the Parker family’s daughter? The one who used to visit us all the time when we were kids?”
I blinked in surprise, then chuckled. “Of course, I remember her. She used to follow me around everywhere. Didn’t she go overseas for school? We kind of lost touch after that.”
My sister grinned knowingly. “Well, she’s back now. Still single, too. Want me to set up a meeting?”
I raised an eyebrow, teasing her. “Are you trying to play matchmaker now?”
She laughed, throwing her hands up. “I wouldn’t dare pressure you like Mom and Dad did. But she really is a great girl. If you’re interested, I could arrange something.”
I shook my head with a soft smile. “Maybe later. Right now, I just want to enjoy life and help out with the family business.”
Thankfully, she didn’t insist and simply ruffled my hair affectionately. “Fair enough. Whatever you decide, I’ve got your back.”

Her words warmed my heart. At that moment, I realized how lucky I was. I had my family,
my freedom, and a peaceful life ahead. What more could I ask for?
As for love… well, I figured I’d leave that to fate. I had all the time in the world to wait for the right person to come along.
