Chapter 17

EMMA.

Alpha Wilson is a

man. He’s the most gorgeous male I’ve ever laid my eyes on. His features harmonize so faultlessly that he looks fictitious. Once in a while, I stare at him and wonder how a guy so beautiful can exist. It isn’t just the way his eyes captivate you, it’s the way his entire face is sculpted. I don’t doubt that he has all ladies falling by his feet. Having a perfect build and skin smeared with black inks accompanying that handsome face makes him the number one man for any woman out there, I believe.

That he’s a remarkable pack leader with immense strength and dominance just adds to the charm of his looks and appearance.

But the sight in front of me somehow still shakes me. My heart clenches tightly in my chest and the discomfort there makes me frown. Why does this upset me? It shouldn’t. Nothing has transpired between the two of us for me to feel this way.

I recite the words in my head, but the second I lift my gaze again and see she remains in that position, those words dissolve and that upsetting feeling in my chest returns.

I do not like this one bit. I want to turn around and pretend this scene never occurred, but I can’t. I won’t. So I take slow strides forward before placing two knocks on the already–opened door.

I don’t wait for him to call me in. I step inside and shut the door behind me. With a clear of my throat, I say, “Alpha. You called

The lady between his legs turns and she’s obscuring my view of Will. My fingers flex by my sides as my gaze locks with hers and not even the irritation that churns at me can make me deny how beautiful she is. She’s gorgeous, with her long black hair and brown eyes that complement the rest of her features perfectly. She steps out from between Will’s legs, and my eyes follow her as she stands by his side. I shamelessly and unconsciously stare her down, my eyes roaming across every inch of her frame.

She has a perfect body, too. Not too slim and not too thick; just the right amount of petite. In her high–waisted pants that hug her legs tightly, the curve of her waist and hips stand out. I can see her pointed nipples from here in the crop top she has on and the way the curls of her hair cascade down her left shoulder just adds a flawless couch to her allure.

1 feel my stomach twist and a pang of jealousy hit me at the freeness in her dress. How her clothing makes her look effortlessly sexy and how she’s probably the kind of girl Will would want.

“Emma?” I remove my eyes from hers at Will’s call of my name and his expression is relaxed compared to how enraged he had seemed this morning. Is he that happy with her? Did having her between his legs calm him down? Did she? What did they de before I walked in? Or were they just…

Goddess. What the hell are these thoughts?

I shake my head, reminding myself that Will is my stepbrother and whatever inanity that wants to take root within me needs to be plucked. Maybe this is exactly what I need–seeing him with a woman should remind me nothing would ever happen. He sees me as a stepsister and that’s what I must see him as too. I should never and must not want him.

It’s unheard of. I’m sure he would be sickened if he could hear my thoughts right now. He’d no doubt keep his distance from me forever.

“Emma?” My name leaves his mouth again and I bury my thoughts deep where they can never come up from again. “Alpha.” I lick my mouth, and he tips his head. “Doctor lan said to give those to you; they’d help you to sleep well.”

My gaze follows where he’s pointed and medications rest in the middle of his desk.

“Thank you, Alpha. I mumble and move close. My eyes meet hers as I grab the medications off the desk before they shift to Will’s. He’s staring at me with his brow slightly arched and I swallow under his gaze, my throat tightening.

1 blink at nothingness before I step back and bow a bit. “I’d be on my way.”

I steal another glance at her before following the turn of my body. I’m almost at the door when I hear her ask, “Who’s she?”

I slowly reach for the knob as I wait for his response. A heartbeat passes before I hear him say, “My stepsister.”

It feels as though time freezes after the word leaves his mouth. He’s said nothing but the truth. Of course, I’m his stepsister, but to hear him from his mouth makes my chest burn in a way it shouldn’t and I pull my bottom lip between my teeth before ripping the door open with more force than necessary and walking out.

The sound of her giggles follows me as the door shuts and my fists close around the medications I have in hand as I stride down the hallway, the echoes of her laugh mocking me with each step I take further away.

I stop and lean against a wall to catch my breath. My eyes are watering for a reason I do not know, so I lift my head and press a fist to my chest. I knock my knuckles around my heart a few times, but the ache doesn’t leave.

Why does it hurt so fucking much? Perhaps the burn from a dream I do not remember isn’t as relieved as I thought.

“That must be it.” I muse and résume my walk. Instead of retiring to the training grounds, I make for my room. The door clicks as I walk inside and I make a glass of water to take the pills. I caress my chest after swallowing them and find myself before the mirror. My messy reflection stares back at me and I remove my hand from my chest to smooth my curls. I turn to check my backside before sliding my hands down my sides, wanting to feel the slope of my curves.

Not satisfied, I move my hands inside my shirt and press them to my bare skin. It still isn’t enough. Not in these clothes. I do not compare to… I do not compare

My hands fall from my shirt, and they sway by my side as I stare into the mirror.

I do not compare.

“You do not,” I whisper to myself and stay in front of the mirror as minutes pass by. The more time flies, the more I hate what I see. The more hatred I feel; the more my anger worsens.

myself to take a step back and walk out of my room because I might just lose it if I stay any longer.

I make my way back to the training grounds and my steps slow near the fields when I see that familiar face again. The Alpha is nowhere in sight, but she stands before the warriors with a big smile on her face as she watches.

“You ready for your fight?” Ryan voices as he walks to me and I hum without averting my gaze. “Good. You’ll be going against-

“Who’s she?” I can’t help myself. The words leave my mouth before I can

n stop them, halting Ryan’s sentence.

“What?” I turn to Ryan and he looks confused. Without saying a word, I look back at her.

“Oh. Her. Penn Blood; Daughter of the Alpha of a neighboring pack. Their pack was attacked, so she’s here in place of her father to discuss the situation with the Alpha” He explains, and I return my gaze to him. “Oh. That can be done?”

He nods. “Yeah,” a second of silence then his lips curl. He leans in closer to whisper near my car, “But between the two of us, she doesn’t care for the attack or whatever meetings need to be held for it. She’s only here because she likes Will. She’s been eying him for a while now. Even after multiple rejections, she isn’t giving up. Rejections? What I walked into didn’t look like a rejection to me

“Anyway, prepare for your round. You’ll be going against Kyle.” Ryan pats my back before he walks away and I watch her for a while more before Lfinally look away, Ryan’s words staying in the back of my mind.

With a face like that and a body like that, I doubt she hasn’t succeeded in her quest.

“I can’t believe you’re voluntarily coming with us. I didn’t even offer this time.” Bianca says next to me and I smile at her before looking out the window. We’re driving to their home after school, with Bianca behind the wheel today while I stay in the passenger seat, and Elijah takes the back seat.

They’ve both invited me to their house several times and I’ve always had excuses to give. I don’t feel like returning to the pack house early today though, so why not check out my friends‘ place?

Chapter 17

“You’re going to have a delightful time! Mom would love you so much, she’s been dying to meet the new friend I made.” Excitement fills Bianca’s words and 1 beam at her, “I can’t wait to meet her too.”

She told me about her mom once and how she was the strongest warrior in the Blood Moon pack before she retired. It explained how they’re both so strong despite just transforming recently.

“We’re here,” Elijah says from the backseat as the car slows down and I look out the window. Bianca kills off the engine before getting out of the car and I follow, marveling at the sight of their house as 1 shut the car door.

“Nothing big, right?” Bianca says as she moves to my side and I shake my head. “No. No, it’s beautiful.” It’s just the comfortable size for a family house and the front garden is ornamented with flowers and some other herbs I do not recognize.

“Wait till you see the inside. Bianca grins, walking ahead of us while Elijah remains by my side. “Thank you” I throw him a smile when he passes me my bag, and he slides his hand over my shoulder the way he loves to do, pulling me flushed against him.

“Welcome to my world, pretty.” He winks and I roll my eyes, a playful smile staying on my lips as we trail behind Bianca.

We enter the house and the potent scent of wood hits me.

That’s my mom’s perfume. She loves spraying it around the house, I hope you don’t mind.”

“Of course not,” I say as I let myself further in. “This place is truly beautiful, guys. Looks so cozy and smells so nice, 100.” I tell them as my eyes wander through the corners of the room, taking in the fancy interior of the living space.

I remain on my feet, still gaping when hands drop on my shoulders and Elijah forces me to move. He sits me on the largest sofa and says, “Tll get you a drink”

“Thank you.” I smile and watch as he disappears behind the curtain at the far right. I drop my bag next to me and shift back against the sofa, making myself comfortable.

Quietness fills the space around and my eyes go to the TV before rising higher when I take notice of a symbol etched on the wall above the TV.

I squint my eyes, trying to make out the image and when it’s still not clear enough; I rise from the sofa.

“Daughter of Selene. I gasp and still on my feet when that fading echo swirls around me. That eerie feeling is back and despite the curtains of the windows drawn, chills cram the room, making goosebumps rise on my skin.

“Daughter of Selene.”

“Stop.” I mumble under my breath. But it doesn’t. It keeps coming, as nothing but a fading echo. Then it starts to get louder. the voice becomes clear and sounds furious as the words are recited like a chant. “Daughter of Selene. Daughter of Selene.”

“Stop. Stop!” I scream, my heart pounding in my chest as I wobble back, but the voice only gets piercing and louder. Until it’s everywhere around me.

I turn in circles, trying to chase it, when a door suddenly opens, I hold my hand over my face to shield my eyes from the bright ray of light that shines at me.

“Come. Come to me, Daughter of Selene. The echoes bounce off the wall and I slowly drop my hand. The second I stare into the glow of light, I have no command over my actions anymore and my body starts to move towards the door on its own

I try to stop, but I can’t. It’s like a force is drawing me in, dragging my feet forward and I’m pushed into the door, engulfed in the bright light

I see nothing at first. When I look around, it’s just an endless white blank space. Then I blink and it’s gone. I gasp as a strong wind blows by. “What the hell?”
