My lashes flutter and a groan slips from my mouth as I open my eyes to the white ceiling. My heart pounds slowly in my chest as Ljerk my head to the sides, trying to make sense of my surroundings.
When it sinks in that I’m in my room, I move to sit up and a small wince leaves me at the dull ache that’s between my legs. I push off the blanket that’s covering my body and my eyes drag along the length of my legs. The events of last night rushes to me and warmth spreads across my cheeks as I remember the way I passed out.

I remove the dress I have on before walking into the bathroom with slow strides to wash. When I enter the room again, I throw on a big shirt and bum shorts, then make my way out of the room.
shut the door silently behind me and my heart sinks when my eyes scan through the living room and there’s no sight of Will I let go of the doorknob to step forward and I’m making for the front door when I catch a glimpse of someone moving in the kitchen. My heart soars as 1 recognize the black hair and I lick my mouth before strolling toward the kitchen.
I rest against the doorframe and I bite my lips as I watch him dash through the space of the kitchen. He’s in a black shirt and knee–length shorts. The shirt clings right to his body and the muscles of his back flexes with each movement he makes.

My mouth waters as I watch him move around, and when my eyes go to his hair, I want to run my hands through those curls again, I want to… “You’re awake,” Will speaks, interrupting the rest of my thoughts. He must have scented me, so I swallow and stride forward. “Yeah Good morning”
I stay behind him and he drops what’s in his hand before turning his body towards me. My heart skips a beat when his eyes meet mine and every word that was uttered last night echoes through my ears, making heat rise in my lower belly.
“Did you sleep well?” Will asks as he presses his back to the counter and my lips part. He raises a brow as his lips curl and my face reddens even more when I realize what he’s doing. I quickly drop my gaze and staminer through my words, “I wasn’t. I don’t.”
The sound of Will’s laugh lifts my head and I’m utterly mesmerized as I watch his face glows and his shoulders shake slightly. He looks different Lughing like this–he looks gentle, kinder and so beautiful.
The sound slowly fades away and silence stretches between the two of us as Will’s brow raises higher. I clear my throat and blink, “You should laugh more. It suits you.”
Will doesn’t say a word and I’m afraid he’d just turn away, but he extends a hand and I take it. He pulls me into his arms, his hand resting on my lower back as I melt into his chest. He uses the other hand to brush the strands of my hair on my checks before his palm presses to my face. The touches are unexpected and my heart flutters even before I hear him say, “I exhausted you, didn’t I?”
I move my hands to his chest, taking advantage of the softness I hear in his voice. “I’m okay.”
“Do you feel sore?” He questions and I nod. “A bit, but nothing I can’t bear,” Will’s thumb brushes my cheek after my words and my heart pounds loudly in my chest as I look into his eyes. I lift my hand to hold it to the one he has on my face, and Will’s gaze shifts to it before he looks at me again. My mouth opens and lus eyes drop to it. “Are you okay?” His brows furrow and 1 hum. “Yeah, 1…” I clear my throat and blink twice before stepping forward, shifting next to him. I smile as 1 peek at the pancakes he’s making. “I love pancakes. Those smell good.” I tell him, and Will chuckles as he flips two of them.
I stare at him a while longer before my eyes move across the room and I frown when I don’t see him in sight. I turn back to Will, “Where’s land”
“Backyard. Busy with his spells”
“Still!” I murmur and Will says. “He thinks he’s failed, and he’s trying to correct whatever went wrong
My chest falls with a sigh, and I pull back from the counter. “11l go check on him.” 1 don’t hear Wils

“Good morning,” I utter as I shuffle to him and he fixes his glasses before dropping his notepad. “Hello, darling. Mørning. Trust you had a good night’s rest?”

Ian chuckles and pats the space next to him on the bench. I take a second before I push my body and settle beside him. I stare e abead so I’m not looking into his eyes until lan asks, “How was it?”

“Hmm.” I rise from the bench and walk to the door. Before I move in, I take another peek at lan and then force the
e door open.
Will isn’t in the kitchen when I walk into the room. He’s done with the pancakes and I’m stepping out of the kitchen when the door to lan’s room opens and Will strides out My eyes go to the clothes he’s holding and my brows raise as I wander to him. “Heading somewhere?”

He lifts his head after he shuts the door. “Yeah. To the mountains. Emyr needs a run.”

“Once I get back.” He responds and I want to o say more–ask him if I can come along–but I shove the words back, not wanting to come off as too clingy and ruining the calm mood between us. We spent last night together, I can survive an hour or maybe hours apart for a run,
But deep down, I know that’s not it. It feels as though we’re living on borrowed time and I’m just counting the second we have until we go back to the pack house. I don’t know how it’d be once we’re back there and if the change that the occurences of last night made between us would extend there. It should, right! We had sex. He took my virginity and surely that means something to him?
“Emma?” The call of my name rips me out of my frightening thoughts and Will is standing by the front door with his body turned in my direction. “I will be back.” He mutters, and my heart thumps. I can’t help the stretch of my lips as I watch him walk out of the door and even as he’s no longer in sight, those simple four words don’t stop ringing in my ears.
He’ll be back
And like that, my worries fade.
Will isn’t back.
It’s been two hours now and usually, a run takes less. Is it because he went to the mountains instead of the woods?
I drop my plate in the dishwasher before sauntering out of the kitchen. My eyes go to the front door and when I’m unable to keep still. I make for it. I step outside of the house and my gaze drops on the shield only feet away from me.
Bumps rise on my skin and I swallow through the tightness of my throat before I force my gaze away. I look ahead to the mountains and a smile graces my lips when I see Will approaching the house.
A giggle leaves my mouth and I turn away. I move to walk back into the house, but I halt and a gasp leaves me when it hits me

I look back and my eyes widen when there’s no sight of the creature

I run down the stairs, and slow as I approach the shield. My heart thunders in my chest and I’m almost near it when something grips my neck from behind. Claws scratch my skin and my legs dangle as I’m lifted into the air.
“Mine.” He growls from behind me and dread fills my body as I tremble in the air. I raise my hands to my neck and try to loosen his hold as my breathing tightens. “When are you, what are you please.”
“Emma!” The roar of my name comes from afar and I shift my gaze to see Will running towards me.
“Mine.” The creature snarls again as he lowers me so he can speak in my ear. “MINE!”
The howl of a wolf drifts through the air at the same time my head falls back as sharp claws drive into my back and blood drips from the corners of my mouth
