The next morning, I was jolted awake by cold water.
Herminie’s cat had knocked over a bucket onto me. While I was asleep, the cat had actually peed on my face.
I woke up in shock and, without thinking, smacked it away.
“What is this?!” I panicked, scrambling to wash my face, but before I could reach the bathroom, Edwin kicked me hard and shoved my face into
a bucket filled with ice water.
He said coldly, “You should feel lucky Mimi used you like that. Instead of being thankful, you hit it?”
Mimi was Herminie’s pet cat.
My face was numb from the cold, frozen so stiff I couldn’t move it at all. I screamed, my voice shaking.
“Edwin, are you even human?”
Herminie picked up the cat and looked heartbroken.
“Oh no, my poor Mimi, some of your fur came off after she hit you. Agnes, how could you be so evil?” she said, gently stroking the cat’s back.
Mimi stared at me intently and let out a low growl.
Edwin yanked my hair and threw me down in front of the cat, then clapped his hands.

“Go on, Mimi, get revenge for your owner! Tear her apart!” he shouted. As soon as he said that, Mimi leaped out of Herminie’s arms and pounced
on me.
Its claws were sharp, and it didn’t hold back. Scratch after scratch covered my skin, each one deeper than the last.
I rolled around in agony, trying to shield myself with my arms, but Mimi attacked with scary precision, like it knew exactly where to aim.
Herminie clapped with excitement and shouted, “Good girl, Mimi! Such a smart kitty, avenging your owner by yourself!”
I collapsed on the ground and screamed, “Edwin, if you kill me, you’ll regret it!”
“Regret?” Edwin grinned and held Herminie close. “If there’s one thing I regret, it’s not finishing you off sooner.”
“Wasting all that time with someone like you–what a joke.”
“Meow!” After the chaos, Mimi calmly jumped off me and started cleaning its paws.
Herminie gave it some treats while patting its head, saying, “You’re the best, my little one!”
Lying on the ground, bruised and beaten, I looked at the clock and suddenly started laughing.
“Agnes, what are you laughing at now?” Edwin looked at me like I was losing my mind.
“I’m laughing because your time is almost up.
“Your 30th birthday is only a few hours away.”

He looked confused for a second, then laughed loudly.
“I just had my wedding night with Herminie yesterday. I’m safe now. There’s nothing to worry about!”
“Is that so?” I slowly pushed myself up and looked straight at him.
“Well then, I hope you live a long, long life.”
