“What are you thinking, Mr. Lawrence!!” Skylar snapped as Roy left the room, leaving behind silence and the pungent smell of an old wound that had just been opened. “And who asked you to sit?”
David, who had just put his butt on the sofa, immediately stood up with a confused expression. “I… I thought he was going to……”

Roy had only left one sentence before leaving: “Study my resignation letter when it arrives on your desk, and take good care of yourself”
That sentence made Skylar’s chest feel a little tight. Not because of loss, but because of the quilt she felt towards someone she had misunderstood

Skylar’s cold tone was so firm that David fell silent. Before she finished, Skylar immediately picked up the desk phone and pressed the button to call her secretary.
“Wendy,” she said, her voice flat but sharp, “How come Mr. Lawrence can come into my office without an appointment? Have you forgotten the rules we agreed upon? Mr. Lawrence is not part of our company and he can see me without an appointment while one of the senior directors has to wait to see me?”
On the other end, Wendy’s voice was shaking. “I–I’m sorry, ma’am. he just barged in, I tried to stop him but=”
“Next time don’t let anyone just walk in, even if they claim to know me. This is an office, not a market!” Skylar snapped
Skylar hung up the phone with a sharp click that made the atmosphere even more tense.
She stared at David coldly, her arms folded across her chest, and she stood up straight, showing no sign of asking David to sit down.
“I apologize,” David said, finally speaking. “But 1 had to do it. I knew you wouldn’t want to see me if I asked for a formal meeting.
Skylar crossed her arms over her chest. Then hurry up I still have some business outside the office. You should be thankful that I didn’t call security!”
Just as David opened his mouth, Skylar’s cell phone rang. She looked at the screen of the object on the table and a sweet smile formed on her face That made David wonder. Why did Skylar’s attitude suddenly change drastically.
“Anthony” she murmured softly, then pressed the answer button. “Hello, honey…”
David immediately showed a look of displeasure. His face hardened, but he tried to hold it in.
What the hell Why did that man call Skylar at a time like this. Unconsciously, David clenched both of his fists tightly until his knuckles turned white.
“Yeah. I’m still at the office,” Skylar said in a soft and warm tone. “What? The twins asked me to watch a movie? Oh my, how cute… Yeah, I’ll finish my work early. Can’t wait to meet you guys
She glanced at David briefly—just a glance—enough to see how his jaw tightened to hold back his emotions.
“Okay. See you later, okay. Hugs and kisses for the twins. I miss you so much. If only I didn’t have so much work here, I wouldn’t want to leave you guys either,” Skylar will ended the call with a satisfied smile. “Love you, babe. I’m sorry for making you have to take care of them, in Australia and now here ton”

“Don’t dream, David,” Skylar said angrily. “You were never a part of anything in my life and theirs. You are a stranger who fantasize too much. Don’t ever try to claim anything that has nothing to do with you!”
“They are my flesh and blood!” David’s voice rose. “You can keep denying it, but I know, I know it because there are many similarities between them and me. You may not realize it because you cover up the reality with your hatred for me, but it is all real. They have physical characteristics that are similar to mine.

The words were like a bolt of lightning in broad daylight. Skylar stared at David with fiery eyes.

David was silent, but his eyes were dark. “I will find proof, Sky. And when I have it all, I will make sure Anthony will never be able to replace me.” Without waiting for an answer, David turned and left the room. Slamming the door hard leaving the air that suddenly seemed suffocating. Skylar stood frozen for a few seconds, before her body finally went limp. She sat down and with trembling hands took her cellphone. She pressed the name on the phone screen–Anthony.
“Anthony,” she said when Anthony answered, her voice almost shaking, “Can you come to the office now? But don’t bring the twins yet.. I need to alk. It’s confidential”
It didn’t take long. Half an hour later, Anthony arrived, Wendy immediately invited him in because Skylar had ordered that earlier.
As soon as Anthony entered, Skylar immediately rose from her chair and hugged him tightly, her body shaking with sobs.
Anthony rubbed Skylar’s back gently. “What happened, baby?”
“David… Skylar murmured, sofily and her voice was full of hun. “He’s going to find evidence about the twins and claim them”
