The hospitals VIP room was still silent, only the sound of the ticking of the wall clock occasionally echoed between the heart rate monitor machines indicating Anthony’s stable condition.
Skylar sat on a
i–sofa chair on the side of the bed, staring at Anthony who was lying with a bandaged wound on his stomach.
Anthony moved slowly, opened his eyes and turned his head to the side, realizing someone was looking at him. He smiled when his eyes met
“sky, aren’t you going to the office?” Anthony asked while grabbing Skylar’s hand and rubbing it gently. “You’ve been here for several days”
Tm not calm leaving you alone here.” Skylar said softly. That’s why I told Wendy to bring all my work here. So I can keep working while accompanying you”
Anthony smiled thinly, turning his head with a slow movement. The wound on his body still hurt if he moved too much. “You don’t have to be like this, Sky. I’m worried, a lot of your business will be disturbed because you keep waiting for me here.”
Thave to, Anthony,” Skylar answered firmly, cutting Anthony off. I wouldn’t be able to sleep peacefully if I knew you were here alone. I can still do my job from here and I’ve left the twins with Wendy’s aunt. She’s a middle–aged woman who is used to taking care of children and her house is not far from ours. They’re safe there”
Anthony smiled. His heart felt happy to hear Skylar mention her house as our house. It felt intimate.
“Are they okay“” Anthony asked. “I feel guilty because this incident made me unable to be with them.”
“Don’t worry, they were given very good survival skills, so it won’t take long for them to adapt and become close to Mrs. Norris and her cans and dogs, Skylar replied cheerfully, “They miss you, but they are patient and will wait until you recover
“Mrs. Norris? Is that the name of their new nanny!” Anthony asked. “She has cast And dogs, too?” asked Anthony.
“Yeah. She looks like Wendy and has three cats, a ragdoll and a Siamese, and two Siberian Huskies. The twins fell in love with them the moment they saw them and are almost inseparable from them at bedtime, Skylar said with a chuckle
Anthony thought for a moment, then squeezed Skylar’s hand gently. “I guess it’s a good idea to give kids a cat or a dog, right?”
Skylar patted Anthony’s hand gently. “Don’t think about it now. You should get better and get home, so we can figure it out together later.”
Anthony took a deep breath, staring at the ceiling for a moment. Tm still wondering who stabbed me that time. I was so upset I couldn’t see his fate. His face wa blurry, because of that damn hat and mask!”
Skylar bit her lower lip, then said. “I’ve been thinking about it too… It’s probably not just some random criminal. 1 think it has something to do with the problemi I’ve been having lately?
“Same with me,” Anthony said, turning to look at Skylar. “But we don’t have any evidence. We can’t just accuse anyone
“Who do you think did the Skylar asked carefully. “I have some suspicions, but… Ah, tellgne, who is the person in your mind? Is it the same as the
one in minx?”
“I suspect them,” Anthony thought for a moment. “It could be that the man was someone sent by David, Lilian, or Jenno? They are the ones who have the most problems with you now, right?”
Skylar nodded slowly. The three of them had indeed been thorns in her life in the past few months, business problems, slander, and personal conflicts piled up into unr.
Anthony grabbed his cell phone from the bedside table, I’ve called my uncle. I asked him to send his bodyguards here. You know Uncle Denzel, night! He has the best training and coaching center for bodyguards and security guards. He has promised to send his best people here soon to guard you and the children.”
Skylar stared at him, shocked. “Are you sure it’s necessary to go that far?”
“I don’t want to take any chances, Anthony said, his expression serious. “If that guy danes to attack me, he might come back, to follow or even attack you or the kich. Especially if I have in go back to Australia soon, after I get out of this hospital”
Just as Skylar was about to answer, a knock was heard on the door. Two uniformed police officers entered the room.
One of them introduced himself, “We are from the local police station. We received a report from the security guard of the Windmill Funny Park about a subbing incident that happened three days ago. May we speak for a moment, Mr. Bertand?”
Skylar looked at them with a
th a slightly annoyed feeling. “It been three days since the incident, and you’ve only just come to check?”

Chapter 32
“Excuse us, ma’am,” said one of the police officers with an embarrassed face. “Actually, we came here yesterday, but the hospital did not allow us to enter to question Mr. Bernard, because his condition is still not good. Besides, the report from the park management only came in yesterday morning.”
Skylar nodded. “Then, I might have to talk to the park management”
Anthony touched Skylar’s hand and motioned for her to sit back in her chair.
He then told her everything he remembered about the incident on the day of the stabbing.
He told them everything, about the mysterious man who followed them, the sudden attack, and how she was stabbed when she was about to arres him. Her last memory was when she heard a woman’s voice screaming for help not far from her.
“We will try to investigate this as soon as possible, sir,” said one of the police. “This is a serious incident, and since this is our area of work, we will handle it directly. We will keep you updated on the progress”
“I think you can report the progress to me. Officer, Skylar said. She took out her business card and gave it to the policeman. “Call me anytime.”
After the policemen said their goodbyes and left the room, Skylar stood up and stretched slowly. I’m going to buy coffee at the cafeteria first, okay! Wendy has sent the files from the office, I need coffee so I can read all the documents”
Anthony nodded. “Be careful, Sky and don’t take too long”
“Yes,” Skylar said smiling. She adjusted the blanker around Anthony’s waist and bent down, kissing his forehead, before leaving. ‘Go to sleep. I’ll be right back”
The hospital cafeteria wasn’t too crowded that morning. Skylar ordered a hot cappuccino for herself and some of Anthony’s favorite bread and croissants. She sat on a bench near the window, browsing through documents on her phone while waiting for her order.
Skylar stared out the window at the park next to the cafeteria and accidentally, her eyes caught two familiar figures, walking towards the entrance.
David and Jenna. The two people she didn’t want to see under any circumstances.
They entered hand in hand, laughing as if nothing was wrong, Jenna hung on David’s arm affectionately
However, as soon as David realized Skylar was in the cafeteria, his facial expression changed. He slowly released Jenna’s hand from his arm.
“Skylar?” David greeted. “You’re here!”
Skylar straightened up, acting alert, but she didn’t say anything
Jenna, whose hand was free from David’s arm, stared sharply at Skylar. She refrained from overreacting, but her face was clear, jealous and angry.
“What are you doing here?” David asked casually.
Skylar gave him a cold look. “None of your business”
David was taken aback by Skylar’s cold response, while behind him, Jenna clenched her fiks ughty.
