Chapter 1 – A Fateful Crash and Cruel Choices
On her due date, Elina Sanchez was driving alone to the hospital when she was involved in a devastating car accident.
Her husband, Duncan West—an emergency room physician—chose to rush to save his first love, Bianca Franklin, who had attempted suicide by slitting her wrists, instead of coming to her aid.
She didn’t call him this time.
She could only watch helplessly as her mangled car burst into flames, engulfed by fire.
In her past life, her desperate plea for help had forced Duncan to abandon Bianca to save her.
She and their unborn child had survived, but Bianca bled out alone in her home, her body undiscovered for three days.
Duncan had claimed he didn’t hold it against her, insisting the choice had been his.
He’d even promised her the wedding they’d never had.
But the night before the ceremony, he knocked her unconscious and dragged her to Bianca’s house.
There, in the same bathtub where Bianca had taken her life, he carved into her flesh with a blade, one excruciating cut after another, even ripping their unborn child from her womb.
As he stared at her mutilated body, his eyes burned with hatred.
“It was just a car accident—you weren’t going to die! But because of you, Bianca is gone! Now you’ll know the agony she felt that day!”
When she opened her eyes again, she was back at the moment of impact.
The deafening collision sent her car rolling, leaving her heavily pregnant and bleeding on the asphalt.
The electric vehicle, twisted from the crash, spewed thick white smoke.
She hadn’t expected to be reborn at this moment.
Gritting her teeth against the pain, she dragged herself halfway out of the driver’s seat, but her lower body remained pinned beneath the wreckage.
Bystanders, fearing an explosion, kept their distance.
Her cries for help were lost in the ringing in her ears.
Realizing no one would come, she fumbled for her phone and dialed 911 with trembling fingers.
The stabbing pain in her abdomen intensified, sweat dripping down her forehead.
The call was answered by Emmy Roberts, Duncan’s colleague, who recognized Elina’s voice immediately.
Her tone turned icy.
“Elina, Dr. West is busy. He made it clear we’re not to tell you where he is. I know what you’re after, but I can’t help you. This line is for emergencies—don’t waste it.”
Panic surged through Elina as Emmy prepared to hang up.
In her struggle, a pile of Bianca’s forgotten makeup spilled from the glove compartment, unnoticed.
“Wait—don’t hang up! I’m not calling about Duncan! I’ve been in a crash—near the hospital intersection! The car could blow any second—please, send help—”
Emmy cut her off with a frustrated sigh.
“Elina, stop. Dr. West isn’t here, and even if an ambulance came, he wouldn’t be on it. This line saves lives—don’t abuse it. I’m begging you.”
“He didn’t ignore you on purpose. Someone’s life is at stake. Just focus on your delivery. He’ll explain later.”
The line went dead.
Tears of despair streamed down her face.
She hadn’t expected Duncan to block every possible lifeline.
Yes, she’d called the hospital before when Bianca’s endless crises pulled him away.
But she’d never lied—never exploited emergency services.
Yet now, when she truly needed help, no one believed her.
