“Cindy, what are you thinking about?” Colt turned around and saw Cindy staring at him blankly. “Is there something wrong with me?”
“No, thank you for today, Emilie is very happy,” Cindy shook her head and saw him off, “It’s getting
late, be careful on the way.”
Colt blocked the closing door and said, “Cindy, I was Emilie’s dad, and it was my responsibility to take care of her. I used to be a jerk before, but I really tried hard to change.”
“I knew it,” Cindy said lightly. She could tell that Colt was making a genuine effort to be good to
Emilie.
“Cindy, are you really unwilling to give me another chance?” Colt’s gaze was intense, full of love, and his eyes were slightly moist, glistening.
Except for the day he was paralyzed in a car accident, she had never seen him shed a tear.
He was touching.
Unfortunately… what’s done is done.
“Mr. Nolan, I didn’t need this opportunity. I won’t stop you from treating Emilie well. As for us, the past is the past. With your abilities, it will be easy for you to get Ms. Swanson’s sentence reduced.”
She didn’t want to be Hazel’s substitute anymore.
“Cindy, it’s not what you think between me and Hazel,” Colt’s eyes flickered as he hurriedly
explained, “I admit that I was excited when I first saw Hazel, I thought I still loved her, but it wasn’t
until you left that I realized, I have always loved you.”
“Cindy, you believed me.”
Cindy took a deep breath and coldly rejected him, “These have nothing to do with me, Mr. Nolan.
Goodbye.”
“I would not give up, Cindy.”
“I loved you, and I have always loved you!”
Cindy leaned against the door, listening to Colt’s words, feeling a mix of emotions.
She didn’t want to continue entangling with Colt, so she proactively accelerated her work progress and wanted to leave early.
When she worked, Colt would take Emilie away, accompany her to go shopping, watch movies, and play with Lego.
He wanted to give Emilie back all the missed companionship from the past few years.
Emilie became more and more familiar with him, but still refused to call him “dad“.
Every time he heard Emilie call him uncle, his heart was twisted like a knife.
“Emilie, are you still mad at me?” Colt peeled an orange for Emilie. “Can you stop calling me uncle from now on? I hope Emilie can call me dad.”
“I forgave, but I don’t want to call you dad,” Emilie looked at him, serious. “Because every time I call you dad, you get angry. I call you uncle, then you pay attention to me.”
“Dad was wrong before.”
Emilie nodded and fell silent, but Colt was not annoyed. He continued to peel oranges for her and stayed by her side.
Cindy came to pick up the children and saw Colt feeding Emilie oranges.
Son, he wa
completely devoted to Emilie, truly like a father.
“Mom, come quickly, Uncle made French fries today,” Emilie ran towards Cindy, pulling her to the dining table, “They are really delicious.”
Emilie fed Cindy the French fries stained with tomato sauce and said, “Since you didn’t let me eat outside, Uncle made them for me himself. They are delicious, aren’t they?”
“Delicious.”
Cindy admired Colt. His culinary skills improved rapidly, and his cooking was even better than hers.
Emilie enjoyed her meal very much and felt a bit reluctant to leave.
“Uncle, we were going back tomorrow.”
Colt’s hand shook a little and he looked up at Cindy.
“So fast? Isn’t the summit still three days away?”
“My work has ended.”
“Okay,” Colt said sadly, “What time is your flight tomorrow? I’ll come and see you off.”
Cindy refused, “We had agreed on a car.”
Colt nodded helplessly, Cindy’s indifference was not even a third of what he had felt initially, and he was already heartbroken to the point of shattering.
How did Cindy and Emilie manage to get through such a long time?
yokay.” He felt a tightness in his chest as he saw them off, “Have a safe journey.”
Watching their receding figures, he silently told himself that he must retrieve them.
Cindy took Emilie and left. Just a few steps away, she saw two figures rushing towards them. Instinctively, she held Emilie close to her chest.
“Don’t move!” one of the individuals held a knife against Cindy’s neck. “Don’t make any sudden moves, or I’ll kill you.”
Following closely behind were several police officers and security guards, who stopped a few steps away. “Don’t get agitated, let them go. Don’t make another mistake.”
These two are robbers who just killed a family in the neighborhood.
