Chapter 16
The little boy looked at Aurelia seriously, taking his time before speaking carefully. []
“Mommy, I don’t want a daddy. I don’t have a daddy. What I need only you!“]
The child spoke with such sincerity that Aurelia’s heart ached all over again.]]
Her poor baby had been dumped in an orphanage the day he was born.]]
He’d struggled alone until he was four years old, finally getting to meet his real mother.]
And now this piece of shit was trying to insert himself into their lives?[]
Fury blazed in her eyes as she turned to face Cassian.[]
“You heard him. Lucien doesn’t need a father, and I don’t need a husband. I’m perfectly capable of raising my son on my own, so don’t do us any favors!“]]
Before Cassian could respond, she picked up Lucien and started crossing the street.]
Cassian stood there stunned for a second, then rushed after them–straight into the path of an oncoming delivery truck.[]
The screech of brakes cut through the morning air, rubber burning against asphalt.[]
Cassian felt his body get launched into the air by an incredible force. Before he could even catch one last glimpse of Aurelia and Lucien, he crashed hard onto the pavement.]
Agony flooded through every inch of his body. As his consciousness faded, he thought he saw Aurelia running toward him.[]
She was crying and shaking him. “Cassian, wake up! You can’t die! You haven’t signed the divorce papers yet–I don’t want to be tied to you even in death!”
Cassian managed a weak smile as his vision went
How fucked up was it that the last thing he heard before dying was his wife demanding a divorce..
When he opened his eyes again, the smell of disinfectant made him cough violently.]
Ethan immediately rushed to his side. “Mr. Thornwell! You’re awake! How are you?”
Cassian shook his head, trying to clear the fog from his brain.[]
He’d been lying there for a few minutes when a doctor walked in.]
“Thanks gosh, Mr. Thornwell! We’re glad to see you’ve regained consciousness.”
The doctor’s expression turned grave. “However, I’m afraid we have some difficult news.
The words hit Cassian like a lightning bolt.
He instinctively reached down to feel his lower body, and there was… nothing.

Chapter 16
“NOOO!” He let out an anguished scream. “What happened?! Where are my legs?! WHERE THE FUCK ARE MY LEGS?!“[]
“How am I supposed to get Aurelia back without legs?! How can I run Thornwell Industries like this?!“]
He kept screaming and pounding the bed rails, completely refusing to accept reality.]
But reality didn’t give a shit whether he accepted it or not.
His legs were gone. He was disabled now.
He’d never drive his Ferrari again, never chase Aurelia around the world again.]
When he finally looked up, his eyes were bloodshot with despair.]
Ethan tried to comfort him. “Sir, don’t give up hope. There might still be options!“]
But Cassian knew better. There were no options. His legs were gone, and so was his dignity.[]
Aurelia would never come back to him now. He’d become the laughingstock of all New York.[]
He lay there staring at the ceiling with dead, empty eyes.
“They’re gone… my legs are gone…”
He kept repeating those words like a broken record, completely lost in his own private hell.[]
