Chapter 29 Framed
Maryanne didn’t deny it. “Hmm! That man isn’t worth it. Your mother- in–law watched you suffer and did nothing.”
Leona’s heart had long turned cold. She would never go back to the Duffy family.
She wiped her tears, still exhausted. She knew her condition was severe, but the medicine Maryanne gave her worked better than anything before.
“May I ask your name, miss?”
“Maryanne.” She handed Leona a phone number.
She wasn’t a saint. She just hated seeing people who bullied others.
Leona leaned weakly against the wall, clutching the number.
“Alright. I’ll find you in six months. Could you call my father? I want him to take me home. They took my phone.”
Maryanne dialed the number Leona provided.
Then Leona fainted.
Maryanne supported her.
“Hello?” A deep voice answered.
“Are you Leona’s father?” Maryanne asked,
“Yes. Who are you? Where is my daughter?”

“She’s in the lounge at Spadax Hotel. She had an asthma attack but took medication. She’s stable. She wants to come home.”
“Thank you. I’m nearby. I’ll come now.”
“Okay!” After hanging up, Maryanne helped Leona sit up.
Leona opened her eyes weakly, tears falling. “Will he really come? I cut ties with him for that man. I broke his heart…”
When she’d stormed out, her father had pleaded, “Leona, that man isn’t your good match. If you’re tired, come home. Mom and Dad will always love you.”
“Back then, I thought they were hypocrites. If they truly loved me, why not let me be with the man I loved?
“When I left, my sister only asked me not to tell Trevin about our family’s true status. She knew I’d never be happy.”
Leona smiled bitterly. “They say love makes women foolish. As bystanders, my parents saw the truth I couldn’t.”
Maryanne was relieved she had come to her senses. Cutting losses early was wise.
“Glad you understand. Your father’s nearby. I’ll take you downstairs.” Leona nodded weakly. “I’m so tired… I haven’t slept in three days.”
She’d barely rested while hand–making a birthday gift for her husband.
“Stay awake a little longer. We’ll reach the curb in minutes. Rest once you’re home.”
“Okay.” Leona fought to keep her eyes open, longing for her parents.

But exhaustion won. She slumped against Maryanne’s shoulder, asleep.
Maryanne took a deep breath, about to set her down and wait for her father.
“Murder! Murder!” Leona’s mother–in–law arrived with a crowd. Seeing Maryanne holding Leona, she seized the chance to frame her. So Leona’s death would have nothing to do with the Duffy family.
Maryanne pursed her lips, gaze icy. “Madam…”
Trevin stormed over. “Who are you? Why did you kill my cousin?”
